Game Thread (2004) Game Seven: Indiana - 10/23/04 (W, 4-3/1-3)

I'm being a smart ass buckeyenation27. I know he has been redshirted!!! I'm being sarcastic by saying "I don't know why he has been redshirted". This means that I think we are too shallow at the position and need another solid runningback especially with the "fake money boy" situation.

 Nice one. Did you hear the crowd boo her when they announced her name on Saturday, that was good for a chuckle.

You mean the crowd wasn't cheering for "Nuuuuge!" at the precise moment they displayed her picture on the South end big screen? :banger:

If you head down to the stadium this week, take a close look at the roofs of St. John Arena and the Morrill Towers. That little blue tent up there isn't tailgaters. I have a few pics where I zoomed in pretty goos and my father in law took a couple really good ones. There is an insane amount of fire power up there.

Don't hold out on us, share them!

He's not being hard on Mo Hall and its got nothing to do with knee surgeries.

He's pointing out the fact that only vs IU can our backs run into the pile, break tackles and bounce it outside for a big gain. He's 100% correct.

I watched the game saturday and true enuff, there WERE a number of running plays that got stuffed at the line. More often than not Pittman (and even Hall) were able to break tackles and bounce outside. BUT for every ONE of those type plays there were TWO or THREE that were well blocked, well run and well executed, even a few where Pitt was barely even touched til he got past the line of scrimmage! I think the level of execution across the board was FAR and away the BEST that I've seen all year.

Good Bucks or Bad Hoosiers? Who the hell knows, Who the Hell cares. I'm not gonna get my hopes up TOO far after a win over INDY but after the lackluster, half-assed efforts of the past month or so I'll take a win BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY.

Re: Mutiny
Zwick may very well prove to be the better QB over time, but RIGHT NOW Smith seems to have an edge that has nothing to do with height, weight or HS resume. Whether you call it Leadership, Charisma or whatever- HE has it and the players seemed to respond on saturday.

JMHO take it or flush it.

I don't know why Erik Haw is not being put into action. I would like to see what he has in the tank.
From what I've heard of high school coaches that have played/scouted both Pittman and Haw, they say that Haw doesn't have the field vision that Pittman posesses.

However, Haw is bigger and faster (40 time).

Pittman is most likely the better back.

I know but I still don't know why he hasn't played.
We're already giving carries to a true freshman... obviously we can tell which one the coaches like better.

They're not playing Haw because they don't have to. Maybe it's because they want a full 4 years with him and feel comfortable enough with Pittman and the other guys running. No need to waste eligibility if you don't have to.

Don't like that answer? Call JT.

Here is the latest installment of pics from the stadium. I didn't get into the game until almost midway into the 1st quarter due to the lot not filling up. Indiana had virtually no fans here to speak of and not a one brought an RV for tailgating.

Anyhoo, here we go:

Block O performs a "card stunt".

Troy Smith returns to the huddle.

Holmes scores in the corner. (I'll have to remind Fred to keep his hands down)

Troy is flanked by Mo Hall in the shotgun

Playcalling - Indiana - QB/RB/Execution

There has been a ton of conversation about the lack of offensive production and theories range from bad playcalling to bad execution to personnel to _________ (you fill in the blank). Herbstreit is on record as saying that he believed predictability, especially on first down, was a major factor. This past game with Indiana seems to have a lot of us feeling better about the offensive performance and it was definitely a step in a positive direction.

Most of you are probably familiar with Amey's offensive play breakdown each week on the Ozone and I found this very interesting:
First Down--29 plays (44%) for 176 yards
Seven pass (24%)--2/7 for 20 yards

22 runs (76%) for 156 yards 1 TD--7.1 ypc

ave. gain of 6.1 yards

Talk about predictability and yet the production was something we all enjoyed. I see this as an indicator of the following:

1. Predictability and playcalling are not the major problem, it is execution.

2. Intensity and velocity was greatly increased and effected the success of the called plays. This was probably due to two things: new personnel and increased urgency or focus.

3. It was Indiana.

Can't wait to see if the team can respond against a better defensive team in Penn State. If they can play with the same execution, intensity, and focus, they may have honestly turned a huge corner for this year and in preparation for a great run in the next couple of years.
