I'll give it a shot. This is subject to change following the spring game.

Cinci - W
Marshall - W
@NCSU - L
@NW - W
Wiscy - W
@Iowa - W
Indiana - W
PSU - W
@MSU - W
@Purdue - W
Michigan - W

I think this young team will struggle in their first road game next year. McLendon may give us fits, along with Richard Washington. I guess it depends if NCSU finds a QB. For now I'm calling it a loss.

Starting lineup on opening day:

QB Zwick
RB Ross
FB Joe
WR Holmes
WR R. Hall
LT Sims
LG Coleman
C Mangold
RG Person
RT Kne

DE Fraser
DT Pitcock
DT Patterson
DE Kudla
SLB Carpenter
MLB Schlegel
WLB Hawk
CB Fox
FS Salley
SS Whitner
CB Underwood

K Nugent
P Trapasso
KR Holmes, Ginn
PR Hiley

Clarett ends up in the NFL. Ginn takes over for Underwood by mid season.

Wisconsin and scUM are the only games that stick out to me. But since they're at home I have to say we're the favorites. Penn State could be tough next year as well. I didn't have a great feeling about the team this year but I do about next year. I think we go 11-1 with a win in the Rose bowl.

The three games on that schedule that scare me right now are NC State, Iowa and Purdue. Not sure what any of those teams have coming back but Iowa and Purdue have been very good the last few years, especially Purdue against us. NC State loses Rivers, so if Clarett is back, I think we take them. I think Purdue is late enough in the year that all the young guys are hitting on all cylinders at that point. Which leaves Iowa. Early in the big ten season so the young guys are still inexperienced, it is on the road and Iowa is a very good team. I think we lose a close one if we have MoC and not so close if we don't.

So my guess is 10-1, enough to get a BCS bid again and maybe be in the national championship. Oh, and I think we take UM behind the woodshed next year.

I'll take a shot ... 10-1 then to the Rose (Orange if the Stars are in alignment). I'm not sure where we lose, but the Cincy game has me nervous. I'm not sure what Cincinatti has coming back, but they do have Coach Dantonio and his knowledge of OSU. With us losing a LOT of seniors and Coach D's knowledge of any OSU weakness, I'll be sweating that game more that I should.

Two early games worry me a bit: Cincy and NC State. Cincy normally wouldn't get my attention, but something tells me that Dantonio is going to have them loaded for bear. NC State still has McLendon, and with our young DL he may be the difference maker. If we win all three OOC games, I think we'll run the table.

I'm going to agree with CleveBucks and say 10-1 with the loss being at NC State, but definitely subject to change prior to the season opener. I at first wanted to go with an 11-0 prediction, but because we went undefeated after I predicted two losses in 2002 and had two losses after i predicted we'd go undefeated last year, I figured splitting the difference is the safest bet. :wink2:

This early I'll go with 9-2... need to replace the OL (could be a good thing :( ), need to have a RB step up, replace the QB... well lets just say on O outside of the TE and WR, a lot of folks need to step up to the plate...

On D we lose a lot, however I still think we will replace with a lot of talent...

again, 9-2 until I see spring ball and how well the younger guys are comming along...

The 2004 schedule is very favorable for another undefeated run. I can't wait ofr the spring game where we will all have a better idea of the talent moving into the fall. The exciting thing to me going into this offseason is the fact that this team did not pack it in for the bowl game coming off a Michigan loss. If the Clarett/NFL decision is held to a mere sideshow rather than a full blown circus, then things could be looking very good starting in 243 days.

My Take on some of the games

Cincy - W - Coach D will give us fits fit but we have too much talent and pull out a Win. Being a home game is the advantage.

Marshall - W

@NCSU - W - I believe a scary one as well but Rivers is gone, they'll need a passing game to beat us. No team will beat us with just a running game... new D line or not. McClendon may get close to 100 yards but we still win.

@NW - W

Wiscy - W - Always scary. Davis returns but the passing game is a big question with Sorgi and Evens leaving.

@Iowa - W - They lose talent but Ferentz (sp?) can coach. Should be close but I think we pull this one out as well.

Indiana - W

PSU - W - JoePa is close to rock bottom.

@MSU - W

@Purdue - L - I believe they are coming back loaded. A team that could have beat us the last two years plus they almost came back on UGA this year. Being at Purdue is a HUGE advantage in this one.

Michigan - W - They lose too much talent on Offence.... PLUS they are M*CH*G*N. No way I pick'em over our Bucks.

I see one loss this year... maybe two. Purdue and Wisky are the two that are sticking out in my mind. Wisky will be close but a see a "revenge" game for ending the streak last year. Plus were home after two years in Madison.... another advantage for this game.

Iowa - Does Fred Russell return or is he done? I think thier QB was a SR too.

Ok, i'll try.
1) NFL puts up a fight, and it gets too late for Mo C. and the draft.
1a) He plays next year for us.

2.) The 2 most important o-line positions return: center and left tackle. We can say that those 2 were very good performers for us this year. Sims for all season, and Mangold, once he started. I'm not a coach, but it seems that learning the center position would be very hard, especially with so much shotgun. Does anyone recall of Mangold's name being mentioned regarding anything negative ? I don't. I do remember seeing him pull, and pull well when he was in there. I think he will continue to improve and become a great ( if not already) ol. Sims started in 2 Fiesta Bowls. A case could easily be made that Mangold and Sims were our 2 best lineman this year. I think Hamby steps right in (Izzy too) and will improve his bloacking each week. All he needs to do is pay attention to the snap count!! ha ha. I think the hardest thing is going to find a right tackle, amongst the boys looking to crack the lineup. Datish will win one of the guard spots , Kne, the other and someone among Barton, Schafer, Downing, of a frosh will win the rt spot. While it's going to be new, I really don't see a dropoff. Sure, this years line was experienced, but I feel that they could have played better, and that could have been a result of injuries. I like the potential of the o-line next year.

3) running game will be better, if for no other reason than Brandon Joe will be available all season. One of the freshman rb will play and will help. If Mo C returns, then we'll be vastly improved in the running game (no stretch there).

4) Holmes as the #1 receiver is a lock and he will be a stud. Roy Hall to the other spot, and we're going to be good.

5) QB !!!!!!!! I love watching Troy Smith throw and run, but if he has trouble with the offense, as was reported, then thats too bad. Zwick and Smith , need only to avoid mistakes in order for the season to be successful. I just hope one of them wins the job outright, so there is no second guessing. Krenzel was a great Buckeye, but he never a very good passer. Passing wise, these 2 SHOULD be an upgrade at the position, at least passing wise. Hopefully, they learned allot about defenses, as they watched from the sidelines this year.

6) Next year, as was the case this year coming into the season, I am worried about the punting game. While B.J. proved me a big idiot, I hope Trepasso can do the same, because I watched the others closely this season, and they are a big dropoff. I really like the fact that Trepasso is enrolling early because it shows how serious he is about the position. I don't know anything about him, but others say good things. I think it shows the coaches seriousness regarding the position, that they wanted him to enroll early.
7) Nuge is Nuge, and we have no worries, except maybe those shorter kickoffs, which another poster claimed was actually planned.

8) D-line is my biggest worry next year. It's tough to lose 3 studs like we did, and have it not affect us. Kudla and Fraser at ends, Pitcock,Green,Penton , Patterson and whomever need to step up. If they do, then our D , while not as good as this year, should still be pretty good.

9) LB is a no brainer, we'll clearly be better. If we don't get injuries, Hawk, Carpenter, Schlagel, D'Andrea, Kerr, Smith, and womever else I missed ,will all be great, and the strength of the defense.

10) We'll miss gamble, but someone among Underwood, Whitner,Ginn, or Youbody will step up. Fox is fine (i'm not a fox basher), as are the 2 safety positions. I just hope the next DC continues to preach and teach solo tackling.
I'm counting the days down until the spring game, and the Cinci game.

I think, like 2002, our schedule is a big factor. I'm sure we'll have a down game, I just hope it's against someone that we can still beat anyway.
NC is losing Rivers, and that is VERY,VERY big. I'll say at worst 9-2.
Wisky has won the last 2 times in the 'Shoe, so that will be a test.Purdue loses some big players, noteably Standeford, Schweigert,and Stubblefield, but they want us big, after the last 2.

Iowa loses Chandler, Russell , and a couple good defensive players.

I don't see any game that we CANT win, but see 3 or 4 that we could lose. That said, I'm always worried about scUM, regardless of who they lose, or where we play.
I'll say 10-1, with the loss at Purdue. I'm counting on Tressell ball continuing to win the close games, especially with Nugent still here.

Awe, what the heck do I know ? I just miss Buckeye football and really hate baseball !!!. It's gonna be a long summer.
