2004 Spring Practice (official thread)

Is anybody else surprised that Whitner is staying as a safety, and not playing corner?

Uh, no, seeing as that's where he played entirely last year.

if whitner is a corner playing safety, then why dont we simply switch him and fox? ... it would get everyone back to their natural position.

What is a "natural" position? The position they played in high school? As pointed out above, Whitner played safety in high school. Besides, just because they played a position in high school doesn't make it their "natural" position...unless you feel Chris Gamble's "natural" position was WR and not CB.

eh, not really, i was just the impression that the position fox would be best at was safety, and whitner was listed as the #1 corner in the country, i thought that last year he played mainly nickle just so he could see the field, and fox was playing corner because he was the best man for the job and we had plenty of safeties.. but now if both are starting at corner and safety, i assume that either they should be switched or from this point forward it should be a dead issue about moving fox cuz obvisouly corner is where they feel he helps them most at... now the next question i guess is does whitner move to corner next year once fox is gone? or does ginn step in and take it over?

I don't think we should have any problem at CB next year choosing from among Youboty, Underwood, and Ginn...Whitner is going to be the starting strong safety for as long as he's here.

No doubt in my mind...Ginn steps in at corner and Whitner stays at safety.

The man from Hawaii is correct. Whitner is a safety for good, and Fox is obviously staying at corner (as some of us ALWAYS believed). Fox is fast, and has an amazing vertical leap. Both guys could easily play the other's position in a pinch, and it's nice to have a safety in Whitner with major cover skills, as well as having a corner in Fox who can hit.

Regarding the other corner spot, I am excited to see what EJ Underwood will do this year.
