2006-2007: How far do we make it?

How far do we go?

No way Oden stays for his sophmore season. I think this is just a one year pitstop for him.

He has indicated on several occasions that he intends to stay for more than one year, that his offensive game needs more than one year's worth of work, and that education is a top priority for him. Does that mean he's a lock for a second year? Of course not. But to say that there's "no way" he plays as a sophomore is just silly.

has a college player EVER admitted that he's "one and done?"

Oden can say whatever he wants, but it means absolutely zero right now.

I'm not saying it doesn't. What I am saying is that to automatically assume the opposite is just as misguided.

I think it counts for something that he's been so steadfast in his commentary on the issue. He hasn't said, "I'm thinking about staying." He's been saying, "I'm planning on staying." While college players rarely (if ever) indicate otherwise, they're generally pretty wishy-washy on the issue. Obviously it is my hope that he stays, but I think even an unbiased party would be wise to put their money on him being on the floor for the '07-'08 season.

Couple of points

1-I see no reason why the FF is not a reasonable goal. Could we win a NC, yes, but I'm not going to actually predict that. We have arguable the best returning PG in the nation-Butler-who is by now a seasoned veteran, and Ron Lewis, who will be great for senior leadership, on court contributions aside. That is enough leadership to blend w/ the incoming talent. I think people don't really realize how much Oden will impact the Buckeyes defensively.

2-as far as Oden staying more than one year, I think that is a likely scenario. Academics are actually a priority for him-he has stated that he would like to become an accountant. Your average McD's AA does not make statements like that-ask 90% of college football and basketball players what they want to major in when they are in HS and you get a big uhhhhh-and then they major in criminology or kinesiology or communications or general studies...

I'm saying elite 8 this year, next year our chemisry will be a t(h)ad better, and we make it to the finals. This is when we will see Oden shine and prove he is ready to be a star in the NBA. :(

Bold predictions I know. :)

A good idea for a vBet later this year (like late Oct or early Nov).
