Does anyone else think Tennessee will make some noise? I'm certainly no Vol fan, and I hate their shade of orange, but up until this last class, they were recruiting as well as anyone in the nation not counting USC. They always have a pretty tough defense, and they get a bunch of starters back on offense. If Ainge can stay consistent and healthy, I can see them taking the SEC East.

As for Cal, I think they end up winning 10 or 11 games. Their backfield is excellent, their D is pretty darn good, and if Longshore was looking pretty good before he got injured last year.

By the way, I have both in my top 10.

According to Fatty Weis, Tenneessee has the best defense in the Nation.

I'm not too worried. Eric Lichter has prepared the team to be hunters, killers ... efficient predators. Once he unleashes the lions, cheetahs, and bears on the unsuspecting gazelles impersonating UT quarterbacks, the crowd will fall silent.

I anticipate Pitcock redefines the expression "big mauler."

For the first time, I have gotten a little scared about this game. Why? It is going to be loud a hell there. I mean they are number 2, playing against number 1. You better bet they are going to be packed and yelling like crazy. I just hope they are ready for that.

I don't think Ohio State will see anything like they did in State College last year for quite a while. Well, unless we are undefeated going into the Michigan game and senior day this year. Can you imagine the ovation Troy will receive this year if that's the case?

We'll see it next year in State College. We won't have our Heisman winning QB or TGII, they'll have a very experienced offense. I won't be there, I guarantee that.

It will be loud, but it won't be any louder than you guys have experienced in the past. DKR can get very loud, but I have never heard it as loud as the Shoe was last year.

That game was part of a two game match that spoke volumes about how little is really 'proven' on the field on any particular weekend.

Florida lost that game at FSU 21-24, "proving" of course that FSU was the better team.

But a month later in Nawlins Florida beat FSU by 32.

This is why I hate rematches. Let's just keep this dirty little secret in the closet.
that rematch cost Ohio State a National Championship.

i have to disagree with that assertion. did you actually watch how fast they ran out to a 4 TD lead against UGA??? Georgia isn't exactly a chump team, and the 'Neers were running through them like a hot knife through butter...

And just as quickly they almost blew that same 4 TD lead, which hurts your arguement somewhat I'd say.

I won a lot of vCash on that WVA/Georgia game. I was one of the very few who actually picked them to win that game. I see WVA being talented enough to play with just about anyone. JMHO, but I think a lot of people aren't giving them full credit because of their conference. I would be surprised if they doen't do very well this year (I'm talking about domination, not just winning)...Are they MNC caliber?...Unfortuantely I'm not sure their schedule will tell us one way or the other...

well in '96 we were locked in to playing ASU in the rose bowl due to the conf. affiliations. it was 1. FSU 2. ASU 3. UF 4. OSU going into the bowls. Even if FSU and UF played other opponents and we still won, we would have had to hope for both FSU and UF to lose to move from 4 to 1, which was probably unlikely.

I would be the first to agree that WVU has a very good football team. My argument is that if you are playing in a weak conference and want to compete for the NC you need to make a statement outside of the conference.

WVU has four non-conference games against teams with combined records of 20-25. Schedules are schedules, but they had time to look down the road and make changes.

OSU is lining up home-and-homes against the major programs in the country. But even if they didn't they face Michigan and Penn St every season.

Nobody can argue that a slate of Eastern Washington, Maryland, East Carolina and Miss St is a significant challenge. If WVU gets to the big game they will be doing it through the back door.
