Who the hell is going to play linebacker (specifically outside) in 2006??? That should at least keep the Woody down to about 3/4.

Lukens is supposed to be moving to safety. Couldn't get his weight above 225, and the coaches want him at 240. Lenix may run into the same thing. At 5'11" and less than 200 lbs. the guy runs about a 4.4 40, and wouldn't be a bad convert to db too. That really depends on how well he does with the ball in the air though. I'd actually rather see Lenix keep or improve his speed, and move to DB. Rather than have a fast guy, with a 5'11" frame try to put on 45 lbs., and probably slow way down.JohnnyCockfight said:I'll see your Freeman and Lenix, and raise you a Curtis Terry, a Curt Lukens, and an Austin Spitler.
It's likely the staff will target this position in this year's recruiting class as well.
It is much easier to break in new LB's if you have an experienced DL. See 2003. 3 out of DL's return and everyone wants name our LB's to the all-world team. The following year, when it's the other way around, we struggle. We have enough athletes coming in at LB, that should be very good with a DL in front of them.Piney said:A whole new linebacking unit is not what I would look forward too. We saw what happened when we lost 3 out of 4 DLineman this past year, it takes time for the young pups to get into the system and play at full speed.
2003 was a little different. We had 2 senior starters (Pagac & Reynolds) and AJ Hawk. Hawk did see playing time during the 2002 season. So slightly different to 2006 where all 3 starters will be new and the oldest will be Freeman and the others will be frosh & sophomores. Of course it will depend if we can blow out some people this year to get the young linebackers into the game.IronBuckI said:It is much easier to break in new LB's if you have an experienced DL. Sorry Oh8ch, but really the offense is exciting. But you know that it will be our defense that tells us how great a season will be. Until Tressel proves me wrong by showing that he is willing to consistently score 35+ points, I will still get excited about a season by how well the defense looks coming back.Oh8ch said:I specifically set this thread up to focus on Offense because of concerns about LB that could give our D problems.
