2006 - I'm getting a Woody!

You guys have some serious reaches at OLB. I think my Woody is down to about 1/2 erect at this point. Don't Freeman and Laurinaitis both play middle? This is a position that needs to be seriously addressed by JT and boys in next year's recruiting class. Not to mention the fact that not many of those kids are going to be ready right away. YIKES!
Last year Freeman was backup for Carpenter. same this year.
Laurinaitis can probably play anywhere. Hoobler will probably be the Mike.
Kerr will be entrenched on the outside as this year he is not in the 3 deep at Mike and will be Will if he sees PT, probably.
Until we get C Wells, Lenix will see practice time at RB. he will have to catch up fast to start at LB in '06.
Kerr or C Terry / Hoobler or a med RS DeAndrea / Freeman

the nice thing is great depth everywhere but maybe CB, and the DL will all be one year better.

And 9/11 starters on O returning...

Man, the future is looking bright! The only position that worries me is LB, but as many people have pointed out, there are young studs in the background who are just waiting their turn. I love the fact the Tressel is able to constantly get Elite 11 QB's! Zwick, Bauserman (granted, it didn't do us much good), and Schoencroft. Now, there's Tebow (long shot), Hartline, Schlicter, and some Texas stud that I foget his name (but his brother posts here...so I should really find out his name and apologize).

With all that being said, you got to admit that we'd all be singing a different song if it wasn't for the last two games of the year last year. Nothing like closing the year with handing out a couple of ass-kickings in your two biggest games. It makes this time go by soooo much easier. It almost makes last year's 8-4 record feel better than 2003's 11-2 record.

Sean Hakes!!! Sorry, Shakes2003.

personally, I'd rather see my team be 8-4, with wins over Michigan and a bowl game than be 9-3 with losses to both. I think I'd rather my team be 8-4 under that situation than 10-2 with losses to Michigan and the bowl game. Those two games are such a huge pick-up for the off-season.

And I agree with everyone - the offense is looking like it has a chance to be awesome. But I would rather the questions be about the offense than about the defense. I'm more pumped that most of the people here seem to be confident with the defense.

The thing that I'm most excited about is JT finally getting the big name o-lineman recruits. Outside of a punter and placekicker, "Tressel-ball" needs a stacked o-line and a stout defense. He has been raking in the defensive blue chips since he got here, but the o-line is just now starting to take form. With Haw, Pittman, and the Wells duo running behind the line that he's assembling, the Bucks should be solid for a while.

chris wells could be a tremendous outside linebacker if him and tressel choose to pursue it.

I don't doubt his ability at OLB, but that can't possibly be the plan with Wells, right? By the time Chris Wells gets here, Pittman will be a senior, Haw a Junior, and Mo Wells a sophomore. Not a knock on MoW, but I'm not convinced he'll be a huge star due to his size. We need a bruising RB, and I think we're fine with young LB's. IMO, Chris Wells has to be a RB.

The talent on offense looks good inthe future. How it is used may be a different story though.
The defense is suspect at LB, and DB.
Um... no its not. We're talking about 2006 here, not 2005.

Jamario O'Neal showed tons of talent in the AA game, and some wonder if he'll break into the 3rd CB spot by later in the season. I think he has the skills but might need a year to adjust to college ball, tOSU's schemes, and bulk up a little (tho he's not too small as it is).

We lose Everett and Salley, which are somewhat big losses, but Whitner will move back to safety after next year.

Assuming Youboty sticks around, I think that O'Neal will be capable of filling the other corner position by 02. Our depth isn't fantastic, but our starters won't be too bad. Not sure who will fill the FS position, tho we have a few talented players that could grow into the position. If Dukes/Lyons can break out this year like we hope they can then we might not need Ginn on offense quite as much (not proposing a switch to D, but he could be a full-time nickel starter).

And in 2006, there's a good chance D'Andrea will get a medical redshirt... so that will leave us with D'Andrea, Freeman (who will surely see the field this year), John Kerr (question mark here, but experienced at least), Hoobler, Terry, Laurinitis, Spitler, among others. And while freshman rarely are great LBs, Homan/Gibson/etc give us a lot to smile about for the future.
