Yeah, that Oregon game could be a shootout next September. The thing that hurts Michigan with back to back Wisky, MSU before they play us is the fact that both game will be very physical.....so injuries could be an issue. I know that MSU is probably going to be soft, but Michigan is their rival, so they will play very hard.

scUm is bringing back 4 on offense that likely could be top 3 nationally at their positions in Long, Henne, Hart, and Manningham. They'll put up a ton of points. Their defense will either reload up, or be depleted beyond recognition. I'm hoping for the latter. I'd guess the early "over-under" on The Game this year (meaning if it were played today) would be about 58.

Christ, I just realized I wasted my 1000th post on scUM!

Their DL should still be pretty good. There will be a severe dropoff at MLB. Juco LB will push for PT at SLB. Graham has to become more disciplined in his LB play. Safety still looks shaky, and sears & stewart aren't very encouraging options at corner right now (plus Trent will never be a #1 imo).

As usual, Michigan has a strong mix of top-notch recruits from across the nation.
But the Wolverines were hit hard in mid-January when two players reneged on their verbal commitments.

Michigan's biggest loss was Indianapolis safety Jerimy Finch, who would have been the dominant defensive player currently in the class. The Wolverines' secondary is in need of at least one impact player.

Carr is still the HC, the offense will have a built in damper.

Definitly take the latter. scUM's D this year was exposed in the end as being like so many in the past. Big, stout, physical and completely inept playing in space. Recruiting is the only fix for the issues they have and thats at least 2-3 years away whenever Carr figures it out. I don't see signs that the light has come on yet personally but I don't follow recruiting as close as I used to.

Back to the '07 scUM D...the front 7 is gutted and the only decent DB they had is gone. scUM fans thinking their won't be a big dropoff are setting themselves up for dissapointment imo.

The recipie for beating scUM next year is going to be a team with a solid run D, a decent secondary to double team MM and a good offense. Waaayyy too early to do this but off the top of my head PSU, OSU, and maybe Wisky fit that bill. Not saying all will beat scUM, just that they have the teams built to do it imo.

I'm not sure Hart would be a high NFL draft pick. There's not much of a market in the NFL for running backs who are 5'9" and under 200 pounds.

I thought RB's who never fumble and run all over OSU in their junior season's were high draft picks? Just kidding, you guys eventual won and thats all that matters. Hart is going to be too small to be a marquee NFL back, but who knows right? Anywho UM Offense vs. OSU Defense should be na interesting matchup next season.

You say interesting... I say LLLLLLoyd or VLoyd if you wish.

I can't see PSU or Wisconsin beating them. Both lost their hogmollies. Wiscy lost 5 safeties... read that again, 5. The only guy left on their depth chart is a 3rd string freshman. I will have a riot of a time if Llllloyd fails to capitalize on that little nugget. I think MSU, Illinois, Purdue, Minnesota and others they might overlook have a better chance.
I wouldn't be surprised if we are the only thing standing in their way.

Sept. 1 remains unfilled
Michigan continues search for opening foe; Vanderbilt might be coming to play again.

Angelique S. Chengelis / The Detroit News

Finding a 12th regular-season opponent hasn't been easy for Michigan.
U-M athletic director Bill Martin confirmed Sunday that Eastern Michigan has agreed to fill the Wolverines' open date on Oct. 6, moving from its originally scheduled Sept. 1 date at Michigan Stadium.

....

Schedule change news, because you guys care so much  This gives Michigan a dangerous stretch of bad teams. From Sept 29 to Oct 20, the schedule is: at Northwestern, vs. EMU, vs. Purdue, at Illinois. (Purdue doesn't have a defense, and Illinois may or may not be any good - we'll see how Juice does.) I hate long stretches of subpar opposition, it's dangerous. See: Ball State.

Hopefully there will be a better opponent than Eastern preceding the Oregon game. I don't like the thought of playing someone too easy before what I think is a real trap game. If Vandy returns, that would be good; they're a patsy, but they're an SEC patsy instead of a MAC patsy.

If there's a three way race between USC, the SEC champ and UM for a title berth... they could be leaving themselves out with this schedule. Oregon is solid but not great, and NoD could be horrendous next year. Will the pollsters still remember the big ten by the SC/FL beatdowns?

Totally agree. I don't fault the UM schedule makers....these things are done well in advance and the fact that Notre Dame has a chance to be horrible next year isn't Michigan's fault. Scheduling one marquee matchup, one solid matchup, and two pansies is usually a pretty good way to go.

And yes: I think the Big Ten will take a hit due to the Rose Bowl and title game, even though the Big Ten beat the SEC two out of three.

If we want a national title next year, we'll just have to take care of our own, and hope the chips fall right. Usually that's the formula regardless though.

No. 3 cornerback says he'll commit to U-M

For the first time in a few months, the recruiting scene is shifting in favor of the University of Michigan football program.
Donovan Warren, the nation's No. 3 high school cornerback and No. 25 overall player according to Rivals.com, said late Thursday that he will attend Michigan.
For a player long expected to be a USC lock, the stunning turn of events re-establishes the Wolverines as a late contender for an elite national class.

Maybe I'm blind, but I STILL do not get the draw to Michigan. They lose to us every single year, their stadium is a hole, their coach is Voyd...I mean, they STILL get these top 5-10 classes relying mostly on OOS recruits for top talent. I know that might have been us (to an extent) during the Coop years, but honestly...it's MICHIGAN.

regardless if its MICHIGAN or not, next year there offense is going to be hungry to win the big ten after 3 consecutive losses to us. thats all henne, hart and jake long are thinking about considering they've NEVER beaten us since they've been in ann arbor. they have improved each and every year (even if henne's stats dont show it) but they are going to have a damn good offense next year. mike hart is going to be a beast and now that arrington and manningham have experience they're going to be very good. the only problem they have is exactly what happened to us this year with all the defensive losses. they have to replace the entire d-line, there best secondary player, and some solid LB's, but all in all i think they're going to win the big ten.
