Here's an early mock draft.

NBADraft.net | Home

I don't watch much CBB, but is there any chance the Cavs can get a good young PG this year? If Butler doesn't get drafted I'd love to see them give him a chance.
The Cavs would really have to move up in the draft to get one of the better college PGs this year. Butler is more of a small guard. He is on a playing PG for Ohio State because they have no one else. I am not even sure if Butler will get drafted.

I would love to land Augistin or Collison...Not sure if they will fall low enough to us...

I have stated at our position in the draft that I take the best player available...Because LBJ can make anyone a good player...

The thing is I don't want an offense guy only because as we have seen Mike Brown won't play them...

As for Butler I truly believe that someone will take him in the second round...

I would love to land a big SG like someone like Foster from Vandy in the second...

Also could take a look at Derrick Low in the second for a pg...The question is, is he athletic enough, but plays the game much like Steve Nash...

Another guy to watch out for would be AJ Price if he were to leave UCONN early...

I have a hard time believing that Gordon would fall out of the top 3 or 4, and an even harder time picturing Kevin Love falling out of the lottery. Maybe its just me. Lots of really good players in that list though.

I think someone might/could take a chance on Butler late in the 2nd with how tough, consistent (for the most part), strong, and how good a ball handler he is, but I seriously wouldn't put money on him getting drafted. Being the biased tOSU fan that I am though, I think he'd be a pretty good UFA I'd want for my D-league team if I was an owner.

It also MUST be said: I am very happy to not see Kosta's name on that list :)

40, I think both of those guys falling to the Cavs is a dream but stranger things have happened... look at Shannon Brown:biggrin:

As you know, I would love to the day Butler a shot at the NBA.

I would love to see Foster come to the Cavs. The more I see him the more I like him.

Cavs don't have a second round pick this year (not sure why, but the Suns get it). The Wallace pick doesn't come until next year. From the writeups I've read Collison might be the best fit at PG since he is a good defender, and very quick. I think the Suns have been big in the past with trading picks for cash. I'd see if they would swap picks for the 3 mil that you are allowed to throw in a trade to get Collison or Augistin.
I have a feeling the Cavs are going to make a major run at a guy like Redd or another big name during the season next year so I would rather get a PG if there is a good one available. They already have too many SG types in Pavs, Boobie, Wally, and Brown while West is the only true PG that can play. I think they are pretty well set at F/C through next year although Andy is the only one I would count on after next year assuming they can resign him. Chances are any big trade next season would include at least 1 first round pick unless they would include Boobie or Andy. If they can find someone with Nashian passing abilities I would draft him even if I have to trade a second rounder next year and some cash to do it.

I think our targets are a bit wider than that. While a young PG is nice, I think we take the best available amongst C, PF or PG. I know we are set right now with 4 nice bigs but only Andy is young and who knows if he wants to stay because the type of deal he signed allows him to leave in 2 years.

So if there is a long athletic rebounder type available I would grab him with our first. Then he can sit on the bench for a year to learn. Cuz it seems like in the mock drafts I have seen the PGs are taken early while there are some decent PF types available late in the first round.

I guess I have to change my mindset that the Cavs have good young bigs because they no longer do. I thought they were pretty well set with Andy, Gooden, and Simmons, but that isn't the case anymore. I think they will do what it takes to resign Andy now that they have to, but they will need another good big in the next few years.

great draft for guards this year.

Just a list off the top of my head.

Derrick Rose
DJ Augustine
Eric Gordon
OJ Mayo
Ty Lawson
Jerryd Bayless
Darron Collison

I think the Cavs will have a shot at a great PG. Very deep at that position which is great for us.

A guy I really like in the second round, if we can't get an elite prospect is Tyrese Rice from Boston College. Kid shoots the lights out, is crafty around the hoop, and has a good handle. My only concern on him is the ability to defend NBA PG's, and his ability to get the ball up and down in a transition game. But Tyrese Rice would definately stretch defenses for LeBron.

Not sure Lawson is going to declare just yet...He is extremely fast...

Another guy I like is CDR from Memphis...

Lots of long SG/small SF types in the draft as well, but most are in the second round...

A great PG would make LeBron even better. I think the Cavs look PG almost exclusively in the draft. Hopefully one of the guys I posted above slides down that far, although I doubt it. I'd want Lawson beofre any of the other PG's just for his speed/quickness

Yeah Lawson would be a good fit offensively, but he is only 5'11'' which could hurt defensively...Which is the main reason why he could fall that far, and is also a heavy reason why he could come back for another year...

Augistine can really shoot the ball thus the reason for him being up there higher than Lawson...Augistine does a great job of creating for teammates as well...

Why is Hansbrough not even in the top 60? I dont like UNC but you got to give it to the kid for his toughness and he's freaking averaging about a double-double isnt he? If its because hes not a senior I think no way he comes back next season. (according to the first link)

That is why, if you look in the 2009 draft they have him there...Going 26th behind teammate Ty Lawson...On a side note UNC will be up there again especially if those two guys come back...

Weaknesses: One of Hansbrough?s most glaring weaknesses is that he isn?t a superior athlete ? He doesn?t show much vertical explosiveness and lacks super quickness ? Has shown that he can be disrupted offensively when guarded by taller more athletic players ? Defensively his lack of explosiveness and wingspan doesn?t allow him to be much of a shot blocker ? Although he is an adequate post defender his average lateral quickness will hurt his perimeter offense ? Still needs to develop his post footwork as he picks up travel violations from time to time ? Although he has shown a good array of moves with his back to the basket, he'll need to polish them to have the ame success againt the NBA elite ? He could stand to become more comfortable facing the basket ? The fact that he is a year older than most in his class has led some to suggest that he is close to his peak in development ?
