i think I would rather retain RR then bring in Hoke

According to this Brady Hoke only has had 2 winning seasons as a head coach (1 at Ball State and 1 at SDSU). His overall record is only 47-50. What makes him so attractive to scUM? I think I'd stick with DickRod for at least another year too. He has improved each of the three years (3 wins, 5 wins, and 7 wins) and has Robinson coming back.

David Brandon likes him. Maybe its because Hoke returned Dave's phone call in 30 minutes or less. :biggrin2:

Could DB actually make a decision today??
Michigan athletic director Dave Brandon will meet with embattled coach Rich Rodriguez early this afternoon to discuss his future with the Wolverines football program, according to two people with knowledge of the meetings.
It?s not the only meeting expected today.
Members of the football team will attend a 7 p.m. meeting tonight to learn the fate of their head coach.

You don't gather the football team for a meeting about the head coach, right after meeting with the head coach, if you're going to keep the head coach...

Supposedly meeting has been planned since Dec. 19th, to discuss classes or class schedules.

Not according to the article: "Members of the football team will attend a 7 p.m. meeting tonight to learn the fate of their head coach. "

What is with the Brady Hoke hatred? Not blaming you per-say, I realize you are making a funny.

But he's an attractive head coaching candidate for his affordability, his scheme, and his ability to turn around crummy programs into contenders. I would love for San Diego State to keep him. He has adapted to the student-athletes at SDSU to come up with a power running, vertical passing attack in just 2 years. At Ball State, he never exactly had access to recruits. At SDSU, that is changing in a big way (kinda a TCU-lite at the moment). He's getting some solid athletes at the moment from Southern California. He recruits well in Texas, California and has a base in the mid-West from his Ball State and Michigan days.

You give him the resources from a Michigan athletic department and I could see a really solid future for Michigan. I just don't get why peeps poke fun at him.

Now if you ask me, does Hoke have upside that RR doesn't? No, I think RR now has his offense coming together. If you tell him he can never discuss the defensive issues with his coordinator and have Dave Brandon bring in a highly-rated coordinator, then maybe that is a less expensive solution to making Michigan solid as opposed to changing the entire staff.

Its just a question of: does DB make a change for change's sake if he can't get a Fitzgerald/Harbaugh/Patterson type coach.

Rich Rodriguez fired, report says

*

ESPN.com news services

Michigan has fired football coach Rich Rodriguez after his third season ended with a school-record 38-point loss in the Gator Bowl, Fox 2 TV in Detroit is reporting.

The report comes after Rodriguez met with athletic director Dave Brandon earlier Tuesday.

Members of the football team are scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. ET on Tuesday, according to another report out of Ann Arbor.

Michigan's Gator Bowl loss to Mississippi State knocked Rodriguez's overall record to 15-22 with college football's winningest program.

Michigan will owe the coach $2.5 million to buy out the final three years of his contract.

I know some UM fans would like to see the mad hatter as their next hire after Harbaugh gives them the cold shoulder, but would that mean they have to convert the Big Outhouse back to grass? :sneaky:

I do think Miles will be the next coach. Seems that every report has Harbaugh going elsewhere, and I don't think Hoke is a big enough name to satisfy the boosters. Who else is there that (a) is a big enough name and (b) would actually take the job, besides Miles?
