2010 TSUN News offseason (football)

I'm pretty sure that inside the starter has been named. Not naming it publicly only makes it more difficult for UCONN to prepare. That's my guess.

First I heard about Tate problems, but Shaw has been cleared to play. Just waiting for official announcement.

Everybody with half a brain knows they're both going to play, so they're not fooling anybody. Teams will prepare for both. I wonder if this has more to do with protecting tater's little ego.

First I heard too, but it was being discussed this morning on gbw before being cleared up in dickrod's presser.

Mike, do you honestly think there is anybody that does not think for a second that Denard is getting the start? There is no surprise...DickRod has the looks of a desperate coach by pulling this crap.

No, no, no. He doesn't look desperate. He looks like himself: an ass. Right NF?

It won't surprise me if Tate starts.

If he does DRob should be beyond pissed. Tater skipped the voluntary offseason stuff, got his wangs taken away...and starts anyway? That is a loud message to the shoelace.

By the way...UM's player nicknames FTL.

Like the first guy on the field makes any bit of difference. Assuming it's true that Dick plans on playing Gardner, both Shoelaces and Tater should know they aint the man.

Maybe, just maybe, Denard is not all that great as the scUM boards like to portray him.

Maybe, just maybe, Tater knew the spot was his no matter what and decided to pull a Favre (not doing the voluntary workouts and make his "comeback" only when it was absolutely necessary).

Maybe, just maybe, Richy is a total idiot and likes to play head games with the most crucial position in his gimmicky offense.

I would put my money on the last one.

shoelaces is a much, much better fit for the kind of offense they want to run...tater actually hinders it a bit. Now, the big question is how much of a tangible improvement did denard make since last year. scUM-centric reports would have you believe he's now a faster version of Pat White. Unfortunately for them, that's just unrealistic. He was awful, and I mean awful throwing the ball last season. Coould he have improved substantially? Sure, he almost had to given how bad he looked last year. But, to expect the kind of leaps they are is just silly.

1.) All of those impressive performances this spring/summer were against what might arguably be the worst defense in the Big 10...probably one of the worst in the country. 2.) He did a majority of it against their even more putrid 2nd/3rd string...which is full of freshman/scrubs/walk ons and 3.) QBs don't get touched in those situations. So what do we really know about him? We know that he can loook pretty good in controlled scrimmages where he isn't getting hit against a gaggle of never-have-beens and never-will-be's.

4) He's never had to read a defense - nor has any defense ever disguised coverages, etc. against him - knowing he was in the game to run and run only.
