Dumpster Fire behind the rows...
Hey all. Since our Spring game wasn't televised, I decided to go ahead and give my thoughts on what I saw yesterday.
1. QB - Taylor Martinez and Cody Green may be riding the benches soon. Redshirt frosh Brion Carnes lit it up, throwing two touchdown passes and demonstrating good pocket awareness, for the most part. Meanwhile, Taylor Martinez showed that the only thing that has progressed since last season's 2nd half woes is that he can run better now.
He continues his backwards regression into tackling dummy as he was sacked once for a huge loss, and only went 4 of 13 with the lone pick thrown by all QBs for the day.
Cody Green didn't fare much better, going 4 of 10 for the day on the White squad. They tried to switch him to the Red, thinking it would be better - but he threw only one more pass, which was another incompletion.
Carnes, on the other hand, made the most of the playing time. He went 11 of 15 for 173 while throwing two scores. The lone sack he had was a missed assignment on the protections.
I think it's safe to say that if Green and Martinez don't get their crap together, they may be relegated to backup roles the rest of their careers. They have shown they just can't get it done.
Next post will be about the Running Backs
