2011 SEC Football Discussion

Definitely Paterno. Pelini is still raw, and he's only been at Nebraska three years, and in the Big Ten zero years. He can't be the figurehead of the conference.

He's certainly received tons of praise and recognition in the past 3 years (rightfully so) However Nebraska transitioning to the B1G has been rather natural... I don't see why he couldn't be seen as a figure-head after a year or two.

Certainly after we take these first two Big Ten championships I think he will be.

If the question is "figurehead" then it has to be Paterno because that's all he is at his own school.

As far as the actual coaches, the B1G is lacking street cred now without Tressel that's for sure. Dantonio is solid but I get the feeling that's the best its ever going to get with him. Ferentz has the rep of doing more with less and the media on his jock. That moronic dick with ears in Wisconsin is absolutely worthless. I like Fitzgerald but he's stuck at Northwestern.

UNL, scUM and OSU all have the fairly to completely unproven package. Zook is Zook and the Indiana schools plus Minny, well can anyone really name their coaches without looking it up? Purdue is spack or spackle or some such shit I know that.

No I'm afraid the B1G is bringing a knife to a gun fight in a coaching smack contest right now. Could be a lot different in a few years.

I agree with everything here. As for the Purdue coach, he was the clown that reportedly said "Get used to it," or something to that effect after Purdue lucked into a win in West Lafayette in 2009 by virtue of 5 OSU turnovers; then, he backed up his claim by promptly losing 49-0 in Columbus in 2010 (the game was 42-0 at the half).

I think it's funny that Andy Staples of SI said on the "Dan Patrick Show" that he received a press release Monday from ESPN saying that it was launching or promoting the "SEC on ESPN" merchandise.

Then Staples and Patrick both joked/hinted about journalistic integrity (which ESPN has none).

I read yesterday (can't find the link) that ESPN will be airing four specials on the SEC in the coming month(s). No joke.

Get ready for the Ohio State one (because I can guarantee it'll come).

Four SEC specials being promotion and the one Ohio State special meant to tear down.

If Cam Newton was ever to be found guilty, I'm sure the network could spin it into a positive documentary.

Look at the backgrounds of every new columnists/blogger/reporter they hire (all SEC beat reporters/columnists).
