2011 SEC Football Discussion

 yeah, it was a largely ignored subject... and certainly no southern fans screaming bloody murder over that possibility driven by bias.
Never said it was ignored. But screaming fans were screaming because, for one thing, the concept of a team surviving a conference CG should be considered. Obviously not the case when looking at a B1G or SEC team in 2011, now that you have a CCG. So it does not so much matter that they were screaming, but it does matter if what they were screaming made any sense in relation to the debate.

Arkansas has not looked like a NC caliber team, but because of things they didn't do, in seasons they didn't play in, the leeches ride actual powerhouses to borrowed glory.
?????? Beating #1 LSU at Death Valley is not a NC caliber team??? Their only loss to the current #2 team? Uhhhh. OK.

how absurd is it that Arkansas not only gets inflated based on completely different seasons, but that they laughably get a bump for other sec success, when there were the only team to ever lose to the heavily disrespected buckeyes ?

Last I heard, the 2010 season was over.

it is the teams that are quite underwhelming, like Arkansas or South Carolina, who don't even have to earn it any more. they just get to ride the accomplishments of others and try to not screw it up.
10-1 in a major conference is not riding on the accomplishments of others.

jwinslow;2042257; said:
well the question there becomes, how long until Ohio State or VA Tech not only has to win every game, but also has to not look bad in any of them to stay ahead of a 1 loss Bama...

How long? Until the SEC brand fails at the highest level of BCS play. Five different SEC teams winning the BCSNC is insane. Nobody comes remotely close. That is the unfortunate reality that everyone else has to sit through. But everything is a cycle. We will hit a stretch where we will knock each other out during the season and after we sit two or more seasons without a BCSNC, we will be old news as far as a one loss SEC over an undefeated team from a power conference.

...meanwhile teams like Arkansas are free to lose very badly once but still get a shot at a NC because of what better programs have done?

Again, I assume the hypothetical is an arky win over LSU. If they do that, they are not undeserving

They've played 3 teams with a pulse this year and only two are in that major conference. One beat them like a drum and they beat South Carolina. The other team with a pulse is 6-5 Texas A&M. Arkansas does not have a strong resume to this point in the season.

Well, I thought the whole point of the discussion was if they beat LSU. Otherwise there is nothing to talk about concerning the piggies, except what Florida Bowl they will get.

Ahem. :banger: . So now who will/should LSU face in the NCG assuming they take care of business in the SECCG. I am hopeful the voters will find a way to get OSU? (cowboys) or Stanford? to rise in the BCS standings to face LSU. I fear that either way, whether it's a contrived LSU vs. nonSEC opponent or a LSU/bammer rematch it will do much damage to the BCS system that we will soon see the super conferences and cfb playoff come about. Welcome to NFL lite.

LSU fans seem to think they should get a split title if they get by Georgia and then lose to Alabama or another 1 loss team.

The same fan base that won't shut up about having a split with USC in '03? Still. I thought LSU fans were of the mind that whoever hoists the crystal football at the end is all that matters?

Danielson talked about it late in today's game. Quite a stupid comment by him.

I think they've earned a spot in the BCS Title Game, even if they lose to UGA. That would be similar to how Oklahoma got into the Title Game in '03, when they lost to Kansas State but remained #1 in the computers.

But these days, nobody that loses the BCS Title Game should have any claim to a title.

the only person I ever heard mention a split was Gary Danielson.

I haven't heard a single LSU fan even consider it an option to split.
