2012 Elite Eight: #2 tOSU 77, #1 Syracuse 70 (Final!)

Well.....I said before the tourney that OSU didn't match up well against Syracuse. Then they decided to play like the team that beat Duke for several games, and Cuse lost Melo. Precision passing and offensive rebounds are going to win this game for OSU......and right now they're easily the 2nd best team left in the dance.

In other words, "Go Syracuse! Beat Ohio State!" :ohwell:

Syracuse is the 1 seed for a reason, but as we saw last year the 1 seed doesn't always win.

Fuck 'em up, Bucks! :osu:

Praying to God Syracuse can't hit the broad side of the basket and we take care of the ball. The first 9 minutes of the second half is the exact reason why 'Cuse terrifies the living shit out of me. If we play that sloppy against them, they will make us pay and pay dearly.

Cincy exploited Deshaun's defensive weakness many times in this game. OK, he responded with a good offensive output. Craft and Buford did not score as much, but the others picked up the slack, on O, and with defense all did well. the 'Cuse will see this as well, and work their weakside to take advantage of Deshaun's defensive weaknesses.

We'll see, but it is still Buckeyes for me......win or lose.

Probably be around a 3 point spread. I'm taking the good guys in this one. I really think we have a great shot at winning it.

If Will gets his head out of his arse this team can beat anyone. Keep the defensive pressure and share the ball.

only you could read that from what I said.

Syracuse was the 1 seed because they had the Big East DPOY. They don't anymore. That's going to hurt with Sullinger's range plus the fact that Thomas & Sullinger are going to clean up on the 2nd chance points. A 1 seed that shouldn't be anymore vs a team that would have had a 1 seed had they beaten MSU one more time.

This isn't me acting like a Detroit Red Wings fan and predicting doom and gloom so I can be happy when Syracuse wins. Ohio State is the better team right now.

A big key for me is Sully and DT not only getting offensive rebounds, but taking the ball up STRONG afterwards and turning them into points. Can't get those second chances blocked, knocked away. or altered into misses by being soft. They do that and I like OSU's chances.

DeShaun's ability to get the ball in the paint and effortlessly hit that hybrid hookshot in traffic is a huge plus for us. Get it to him around the top of the paint and let him shoot or distribute out for open looks. I also like that there best scoring threats are guards. Put Lenzelle on Waiters and Craft on Scoop and force their big guys to score the bulk of their points. Can't wait for this game!

Joseph will be a tough match-up for Deshaun. Otherwise, I agree with you that we seem to match-up well with them. Need the same defensive effort as last night, and really hoping this is Buford's game to get on track.

Coming into the tournament I was very nervous about any zone that forces us to hit outside shots or move the ball crisply. But after the last two games I am slightly more confident. Though I am still nervous about us having an 1-14 from 3 point land or Scoop doing his best Jordan Taylor impression against us and scoring 30 points. I am curious to see if they way we rebounded after Cincy's run last night was our maturity and resilience or their lack of experience and ability to handle the pressure.

If we play near our best and the 'Cuse play near their best, I think we win.

you'll want Craft on Waiters. Scoop isn't the scoring threat. he gets his points from open jumpers. Waiters can create his own shot....but probably not with Craft in his grill all night.

We win the basketball game if we play good transition defense. If we don't, we will lose. Cuse is fantastic in transition.

Taking good care of the ball on the offensive end is at least as important as 'transition defense', which depends on floor balance and people getting back. Most of 'Cuse's fast break points come from forced turnovers. Avoiding a period of play like the first 5 minutes of last night's 2nd half will be essential.

Syracuse will use Sullinger's man to set a lot of high ball screens, attempting to force a switch so that a guard can either dribble past Sully or bounce off of him hoping for a foul call.

I'll be hoping that when those high ball screens are illegal they get called as fouls, like the play in which 'Cuse took the 61-60 lead on last night clearly should have been.
