NEW YORK -- The 2012 NBA Draft Lottery will be held at the Disney/ABC's Times Square Studios in New York on Wednesday, May 30, and will be televised on ESPN at 8 p.m. EDT.

This year will mark the ninth time in the event's 28-year history that it is conducted in New York City and first since May 23, 1993, when the drawing was held at the Sheraton New York. The inaugural lottery was held on May 12, 1985 at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, but since 1994, the event had been held at the NBA Entertainment Studios in Secaucus, N.J. however the league's facilities in New Jersey no longer house a television studio.

The NBA Draft Lottery's origins trace back to June 1984, when at an NBA Board of Governors meeting in Salt Lake City, the league voted to adopt a lottery system among the non playoff teams to determine the order of selection in the first round of the NBA Draft beginning in 1985.
Attached is the order of selection for the 2012 NBA Draft, as well as the number of chances for the teams in the 2012 NBA Draft Lottery.

My Pistons started 4-20!

...

but then finished 21-21 for an overall record of 25-41 :(

Tanking in the NFL/MLB/NHL is somewhat pointless since you can't win with 2-3 superstars, but damnit that's the only way for a small market to win championships in the NBA (excluding San Antonio, although getting Tim Duncan #1 was the only way they became a dynasty, so I guess INCLUDING San Antonio )!

Interestingly, your team is, imo, the only team in the last 30 years to win an NBA championship without even one superstar.

They won with a great back court, and a front court of role players. Isiah Thomas, and Joe Dumars were both named all stars on a regular basis. Maybe they weren't superstars, but they were both all stars. Those Piston teams come to mind when I think of what the Cavs might look like if the draft Beals.

Every one of the NBA's 50 Greatest Players of all time would have to be considered a superstar. Zeek included.

But yeah, that 2004 team was a TEAM. Tough and fundamentally sound. No one I'd consider a superstar for sure.

ummm, exactly my point? Lol. One team in I can't even remember how long has won without a superstar. Wouldn't that be more of an exception to the rule?

Yeah, sorry, I didn't mean to sound like I was disagreeing, rather I was agreeing with your comment.

I think they're talking about the 2004 Pistons with Billups, Prince, Rasheed, Ben Wallace and Rip Hamilton. Great team.

I don't think anyone could argue that Isiah was not a superstar.

Also agree. I would generally say there are 1-3 superstar PGs in the league in any given year and I'm not sure I would label any of the starting PGs on the championship teams since Thomas as one of those superstars. The closest I can think of is Tony Parker.

I feel like the rule changes in the NBA over the last 10-20 years have really favored the SG/SF positions more so than PG, which may have something to do with it.

He doesn't get near the pub he should but Parker is a stud. He could score so much more, if he needed to. He's got a great all-around game. Drive, pass, shoot, he can do it all. Irving is headed that way, too. We just need to get our Duncan. Davis would be a great start.

I've always thought of him as a well below average shooter, which was the only thing I think was keeping him from becoming one of the best in the league. I remember the Cavs barely guarding him outside in the finals a few years back (but he may have fixed his long 2P% by then?) and his 3P% has always been terrible. He's still one of the best at driving though, and a great passer as mentioned.

Regarding ESPN and the stupid things they do, I just saw their ticker showing lottery teams and their chance at getting #1 and they had New Orleans at 14% and Cleveland at 13%. How hard is it to get the pre-lotto order correct? Idiots.
