2012 NBA Finals: Thunder vs Heat (OK to bet)

david stern's masterpiece is complete. the nba now has their WWF version of a bad guy that has the title, which presents the great story line of which good guy is going to come and knock them off. you have kevin durant, who's liked by about everybody, and never really complained about getting punked by the refs, and you have palpatine riley's squad of south beach homo mercenaries. it's such a perfect scenario you'd think it was scripted.....

Wow, I think you insulted Vince McMahon and Sith Lords everywhere in the same post.

I fully expect to get a text from stern asking me if I still beat my wife.

But seriously, does this whole thing not resemble a WWF script perfectly?

It does, except I think (and I know we disagree) that they already had the payoff/oneoff/whateveryoucallit last night. There were a lot of casual fans who would tune in to see if the "Dream Team" got their comeuppance, but now that they have a title, I don't think anyone but hardcore fans will give a shit if they get a second or not. They ain't going to challenge the Bulls dynasty and certainly not Russell's, so whether they get a second title or even a third or not is not going to matter that much to the casual fan. The emotional aspect of the Heatles is gone, hell most Cleveland fans have pretty much just accepted it. That's the reason I think the conspiracy theories are overblown...there is more money in the chase than in the reign.

nba fans are going to have to endure 12 months and another 82 games of peacocking assbaggery from these twat waffles. they are the perfect villain, and everyone loves it when the king is dethroned. casual fans won't give two shits about them having a losing skid in January, or worry about if james and wade are spatting like a couple of queers arguing over tapestries. but once the playoffs start, everyone will look to see if someone knocks them off, and will cheer when they do so.

Not really. I wanted the Heat to lose as much as the next Ohioan, but it's clear after watching them against OKC they were better. I don't find that suspicious.

the final 10 seconds of game 2 would like to have a word with you, as would rajon rondo's smashed cranium from overtime in game 2 of that series.

A 4-1 series victory isn't fixed.

Agreed, but the series was poorly officiated from just about start to finish.

What happened is what I thought would happen. Game 1 was a bit of a surprise actually. But Lebron physically dominated Durant and the rest of the Thunder. He earned his ring.

He's still a [censored].

There's never been any question that LeBron James is a great basketball player. And even when he was coming up short in the playoffs, haters like myself just used those failures as an easy excuse to pile on him further, because he's a dip[Mark May] and he deserved it. The fact that he's won a championship doesn't fundamentally alter his character in any way. That's the great con of sports: the idea that winners win because they have character and losers lose because they don't.

All that fan hate was helping to keep his worst qualities at bay, I tell you. I bet you LeBron James is buying into his own bullshit redemption storyline more than anyone else. "It's a great moment for myself," he said. Yes yes, it's all about YOU and your road to salvation, isn't it? YOU BIG SMILING PENIS. Don't ever ask me to be happy for that cocksucker. I hope Kevin Durant sprouts bat wings and wins the next 37 NBA titles.

It's okay, you wouldn't understand

I love how Cleveland fans think I must be dense or incapable of understanding. The fact is...I just don't care. If LBJ had gone to scUM out of HS then sure I wouldn't like him at all. He didn't however, he left Cleveland..ok not in the best way I'll admit it....I'm not a Heat fan or anything but he still is an OHIO kid that won a World Championship last night so I said congrats!

I'm not a Cardinal fan either..but how I'd love to see Beanie lead the league in rushing. Or see Santonio with the right attitude and lead the league in touchdown grabs. Hawk or Laurinaitis leading the league in tackles..It's all about the Buckeyes man. I wouldn't root against Cleveland in a Super bowl hell I might even cheer for them if whoever they are playing doesn't have any Buckeyes on their team.

Why do you say that? Because OKC won a game?

Nah, I'm not a conspiracy theorist/insane. According to BP, every game of every sport is fixed, unless the Buckeyes win. And even then, sometimes the Buckeyes won despite the refs trying to make them lose.

The Heat deserved this one. They were clearly better. I fucking hate them more than any other team out there, but talk of a fix is hilarious to me. I expected to see it, but it's still hilarious.

EDIT: Also, it goes beyond the games themselves. Every draft is fixed. And the games leading up to the end of the season that do nothing but determine draft position are fixed. If only for the purpose of screwing [insert poster's favorite team here].
