2012 Spring Practice (started Wed, March 28) and tidbits

"I made it clear to the players that by the time we hit training camp [in the fall] spots are done. It's game over. We're trying to beat Miami of Ohio. Sure, some things will happen to the depth chart, but the two-deep will be set after spring practice. This is development time now. Once you get to August, we're all about trying to find a way to win a game."

That is a very complex statement to me. If I was a member of this team I would quickly realize every rep, every competition, everything I do on the field is being watched/graded. I think the message would be clear that off the field was being watched pretty close too!

Scout $ - Position Battles, Questions Highlight Spring

3/28

Judging by the weather in Columbus in recent weeks, spring has already sprung, which means it's time for the Ohio State football team to hit the practice field. Coming off a disappointing 6-7 season and under new management, the Buckeyes will be worth watching for a variety of reasons this spring.

I believe thats at the beginning of Summer camp.
That's fall camp check-in day (which was 2 separate days last year), when all of the new frosh and returning players check into the team hotel for the start of fall camp. It's usually around August 7-8th:

Around that time there's usually a practice gallery, as well as media day within a week or two.

Just got word this morning that practice is open to the media today. I'm going to try and get a little bit from the start (I have a separate shoot that starts part-way through), but there should be images and practice reports rolling in afterwards (all transmitting devices have to be off inside the facility).

Ohio State Spring Preview - Offense
theBuckeyeBattleCry.com

Ohio State starts spring practice today, and with it comes a new era in Ohio State football led by head coach Urban Meyer and his staff.

Most fans, including myself, are expecting many new and exciting changes this spring- especially on offense.

It goes without saying that these changes are a source of great anticipation and excitement in Buckeye Nation.

Spring practice will culminate in the spring game on April 21st, and I wouldn't be surprised if attendance pushed 100,000 (pending the weather) given the buzz.

Media access to spring practice is another big question that will be answered in the coming days and weeks.

Under new management, it is possible that we could see unprecedented access to practice, which means unprecedented updates.

We will have to wait and see how that pans out (edit: the media will be able to observe practice once a week on Wednesdays), but increased practice reports is yet another reason for the excitement in the air.

Based on three practice reports or three dozen, here are some things to look for this spring.
