2013-2014 B1G Men's Basketball

Sparty will probably be #1 next week, but I don't think they are the right choice. Louisville I think is the right choice for #1 at this time. Sparty is a lot more vulnerable than that #1 ranking would suggest, considering how they played against Columbia and the fact that their center duo of Costello and Gauna stink. It is truly amazing how people completely overlook the loss of Derrick Nix like he was nothing when ranking MSU, when in reality he was a beast for them last year and the guys who they are replacing him with are scrubs.

Iowa with a 103-41 win over newly D1 Abilene Christian

So why do they keep adding teams to D1 basketball? there are already too many teams and a good chunk of them have zero chance to compete.

I saw some UM fans hyping up Caris LeVert as most improved player in the Big Ten. Coming into the ISU game he was averaging 20 ppg, against 2 cupcakes - however, he shot 2-9 today (5 pts) and they were good looks. Maybe time to pump the brakes on LeVert?

Re: UM 3-point shooting, you also have to keep in mind that the one 3-pointer that Derrick Walton made was banked in. And the one that GRIII made was wide-ass open. A lot of settling for 3s late in this game, clearly they missed Burke's ability to put the team on his back and score in the final minutes of the game. I know Burke missed a lot of last-second shots, but leading up to that point he made a lot of plays in a lot of games.

Northwestern suffered their second loss of the year, falling at home to Illinois State. PSU and NW are going to be fighting all year to decide who finishes last, but NW has a special badness to them. Chris Collins might be regretting leaving the stability of being a Duke assistant to coach the Wildcats right about now.

Iowa State knocks off scUM

3 point hucking at 27% wont win you games johnny b

Trey Burke was a phenomenal college player. Look for Michigan to take a huge step back without him running the show this year. Sunday was just the beginning. They'll still make the tournament and all, but Michigan fans thinking the team is really around the 7th best team in the nation and/or that the team will repeat last year's run in the tournament are kidding themselves.

They gave us fits in the 2nd round of the tourney last year. Hoiberg is a helluva coach who should get a better job soon.
Iowa State is better than mediocre, but remember they beat the 7th-ranked Wolverines. My main point is that Michigan hoop fans shouldn't feel good about this loss, at all. They're overrated this season, and it's looking a lot like Indiana might be underrated with Noah Vonleh appearing to be a beast already. Wisconsin remains strong, and the Buckeyes (offensively challenged though we may be) have enough defense for another high finish in the conference.

Bottom line: Michigan might struggle to finish in the top four in the B1G this season. That would be quite a come-down, and it couldn't happen to a better fan base.

The game was in Ames, not in Ann Arbor. But agreed Michigan is terribly overrated.

I don't know. I hate me some m*ch*g*n, but that's a pretty talented team. I never take too much from early season upsets. Remember, scUM upset both Duke and UCLA (when they were good) back when the crapweasels legit sucked at basketball. College basketball is a giant crapshoot all season. All that matters is how you're playing in February-March. They may be overrated, but I think McGary is the real deal, Robinson is a good wing, Stauskas is a deadly shot, and they have depth. The biggest question is whether those guys can make up for the difference between Walton-Burke. I still think they're 12-6 ish in the B1G this year.

Not disagreeing really with anything here, but this is consistent with my post that they're horribly overrated at #7. 12-6 in the Big Ten isn't a top 10 team. McGary, Robinson and Stauskas will be limited relative to last year without a Trey Burke driving and dishing to them.
