2013 NFL Draft Discussion

Stoneburner with no phone call from a team this weekend? Wow. He surely didnt showcase his skills last season as many predicted he would. However, he has solid hands, versatile, and is able to put on or drop weight fairly quickly to adjust to different roles. Maybe it is a good thing, now he cant get to pick where he goes, rather than heading to a franchise that will make him a 4th string TE.

I could see him and Bino getting calls tonight or tomorrow morning.

Ohio State's seniors must have been the greatest leaders of all time because the NFL doesn't think much of them as players.

You could make that statement for the entire conference. I think at one point UConn had more players drafted than the entire Big Ten. UConn!

Wow, Mathieu back with Pat Peterson. I like the gamble.

for Mathieu as a person, Arizona is the best possible landing spot he could have asked for.

Peterson took him under his wing when Tyran was a freshman.
and when all the [Mark May] hit the fan, Peterson stepped up and flew Mathieu out of town to train in Florida.

Patrick Peterson will do everything in his power to see to it that Mathieu stays in line and busts his ass for this team.

Report: Tyrann Mathieu getting no guaranteed money

Last year's No. 69 overall pick, Bills wideout T.J. Graham, received a $671,000 signing bonus with his four-year deal. This year's 69th pick? Zero guaranteed money, according to Sports Illustrated's Peter King.

Arizona used that early third-round selection on Tyrann Mathieu, the big-play defensive back who was kicked off LSU's team after failing multiple drug tests. The Cardinals took a big risk but are taking steps to protect themselves.

They'll randomly drug test Mathieu, perhaps even weekly, King reported. And instead of guaranteed money, ?Mathieu will earn bonus money in the form of roster bonuses, to ensure that the club is protected in the event that he lapses and the team chooses to cut him,? King wrote. ?For Mathieu to make that money, he'll have to be a member of the Cardinals in good standing week to week -- and clean.?

The Cardinals are actually doing something smart for a change.

Didn't know where else to put this, but this is a good spot.

Report: Geno Smith played on cellphone in pre-draft meetings

Part of Geno Smith's draft day fall may be explained by his reported inattentiveness and lack of interaction during some of his pre-draft visits.

In a report from Yahoo Sports' Jason Cole, two different sources said that Smith, selected in the second round by the New York Jets, spent time on his cellphone texting friends and checking out Twitter rather than interacting with coaches on the visit.

"All these other players who were in there were talking to the coaches, trying to get to know people and he was over there by himself," one of the sources said. "That's not what you want out of your quarterback."

No wonder his draft day went like it did. Sounds like an attitude adjustment is needed. Then again, he sounds perfect for Ryan and the Jets, all attitude and no real substance.

An ad in the alternative Phoenix New Times this week welcomes Tyrann Mathieu to the Cardinals -- with a twist related to his past troubles with marijuana.

Tyrann Mathieu has had his share of troubles, most notably getting dismissed from LSU just before the 2012 season for repeated failed drug tests (it was reported that he told NFL teams that the number of positive tests was in the double digits).

The Cardinals spent a third-round pick on the defensive back dubbed "Honey Badger" in last month's NFL Draft in hopes that he's straightened himself out and can be the player who was a Heisman Trophy finalist in 2011 rather than the one who couldn't stay clean long enough to stay on the field.

Believing NFL teams are concerned with a long rap sheet is a losing proposition. I'm just amazed he wasn't picked up by the Bengals in the first round.
