2013 NFL Draft Discussion

This^ I wouldn't take any QB until the 3rd round this year. Too many red flags for me to chance using a 1st or 2nd. Very below avg. year for QBs imo.

But if youre a team like KC, cleveland, jacksonville or the bills, you need a qb in a bad way now, because they all have some decent wr talent. Coaches will always overreach for qbs, blaine gabbert, brandon weeden, etc

Blaine Gabbert is a whole different level of suck. Weeden looks like a
Pro-bowler compared to that kid.

I understand the need for the QB, but I'll never understand the need to draft a below average QB in the 1sr round and set your team back another 2-3 years. I'd rather have a veteran come in and hold the spot for a year and see what next year holds. But then again I'm not a GM and never will be.

How mad is this year's draft?

08:03 AM ET 03.05 | The dominoes falling include Kansas City's acquiring a quarterback and using its franchise tag on left tackle Branden Albert. And while retaining Albert, a five-year starter, by no means guarantees that the Chiefs will avoid selecting a left tackle, it certainly doesn't aid the perception that they will. Most NFL Draft analysts projected Texas A&M left tackle Luke Joeckel -- or even Central Michigan's Eric Fisher -- to land with the Chiefs. Now, they're not so certain. "[Dee Milliner] now has shot at being first CB ever taken No. 1 overall," NFL.com senior analyst Gil Brandt wrote on his Twitter account. "Not saying it will happen, but pieces falling into place."
Dee Milliner is getting talk as #1 overall. Most years, he's probably going in the 7-10 range.

So is the draft actually bad or is it just bad if you have a top 10 pick or need a QB?

Consensus seems to be it's pretty bad. I personally think it's the worst draft I remember. No real impact skill position players, bad QB crop, not much for impact defense. The only position group that seems good is OL.

Interesting S/I article: " How 2013 NFL draft prospects were rated as recruits"

We marvel every year at how many players slip through the cracks in recruiting only to wind up as first-round NFL draft picks. Often, it's because college coaches and recruiting services simply projected poorly. But in the case of a few likely first-rounders this year, the coaches and recruitniks never stood a chance.
Four players grew up in countries where the people either don't play American football or play only a rudimentary version of it. Meanwhile, two left high school with no football prospects only to decide later that they should try to keep playing. As for the rest, it's just fun to remember a time when they picked their team rather than having their team select them.
I'm using Don Banks' Mock Draft 6.0 for the order, so if you are unhappy with the player your NFL team is allegedly selecting, yell at Don. I only worry about where they play in college.

1. Chiefs: Eric Fisher, OT, Central Michigan
Hometown: Rochester Hills, Mich.
Class: 2009
Rivals' recruiting ranking: Two stars
Hoping to earn a scholarship somewhere, Fisher moved from tight end to the offensive line the summer before his senior year at Stoney Creek High in Rochester Hills, Mich. The reaction was immediate. According to the Detroit Free Press, Fisher snagged a scholarship offer from Eastern Michigan when he went to a one-day camp shortly after his high school coach convinced him to make the move. Butch Jones coached at Central Michigan at the time, and he knew he had a jewel when Fisher came for a camp later that summer. Fisher didn't play offensive line long enough to get noticed by the Recruiting Industrial Complex, but he certainly made an impression on Jones. The Chippewas offered, and Fisher became a star.
