2013 Rivals/Scout/etc. National & Regional Rankings

Free 24/7 - Class of 2013 All-American Team

Ty Isaac, Joliet (Ill.) Catholic

Isaac had a huge year for Joliet Catholic, rushing for 2,629 yards and scoring 49 all-purpose touchdowns. The four-star prospect saved his best performance for the 5A state championship game, running for a record 515 yards and six touchdowns. Recruiting buzz: Has more than 15 offers including Michigan, Notre Dame, Illinois

James Quick, Louisville (Ky.) Trinity Catholic

Quick is the top prospect in a Trinity program that ended the season as one of the best high school teams in the country. The four-star speedster had an outstanding year for the Shamrocks, recording 82 catches for 1,434 yards and 21 touchdowns. Recruiting buzz: Quick is approaching double digit offers. Alabama, Michigan, Louisville, Kentucky and Notre Dame are among the early suitors.

Adam Breneman, Camp Hill (Pa.) Cedar Cliff

Breneman, who may be the best tight end prospect in the nation regardless of class, backed up his lofty status with 72 catches for 1,220 yards and 12 touchdowns as a junior. Recruiting buzz: Breneman has close to 30 offers. Watch out for Penn State here. He?s a lifelong Nittany Lions fan and attends the same high school as former PSU tight end Kyle Brady.

Ethan Pocic, Lemont (Ill.) Lemont Township

Pocic was named to the Chicago Tribune?s all-state team as a junior, paving the way for a rushing game that totaled over 2,800 yards. Recruiting buzz: Pocic is close to 20 offers with Notre Dame and Wisconsin in good shape early.

Jake Raulerson, Celina (Texas)

Raulerson was second team all-state selection in Class 3A by the Associated Press. Recruiting buzz: Raulerson has more than 25 total offers. Texas could emerge as the team to beat in the near future.

E.J. Levenberry, Woodbridge (Va.) Hylton

The nation?s number two 2013 inside linebacker had a big first year at Hylton after transferring from Dematha. Levenberry finished the season with 151 tackles, four sacks, three interceptions, and eight forced fumbles for the 11-1 Bulldawgs. Recruiting buzz: Levenberry is approaching double-digit offers with Michigan and Ohio State jumping in recently. Florida State is a player early.

Jalin Marshall, Middletown (Ohio)

The electric five-star athlete lined up as a dual threat quarterback for Middletown, and rushed for 1,972 yards and 20 touchdowns. Recruiting buzz: Ohio State is the early favorite.

Here is their criteria:

The All-American team, which is selected based not only on prospect upside (which is what guides the 247Sports rankings), but on-field production during the 2011 season...

I can understand no Burrows but no Jaylon Smith surprises me...

Free Rivals - Nkemdiche tops initial Rivals100 for 2013

The initial list includes 11 five-star prospects, with Tampa (Fla.) Wharton cornerback Vernon Hargreaves III in addition to the 10 five stars announced in December.

The No. 3 prospect in the country is the nation's top offensive tackle, Lake City (Fla.) Columbia standout Laremy Tunsil.

"Tunsil is a special prospect at offensive tackle. The 6-foot-6, 275-pound offensive lineman has a great wingspan to go along with a long, lanky frame," said Rivals.com Florida Analyst Chris Nee. "On the field, he has great instincts and reaction. He does a great job of quickly striking off the snap and keeping his feet moving to open up holes and drive defenders away from the play."

The next two players are defensive backs as the top cornerback in the nation, Olney (Md.) Good Counsel's Kendall Fuller, checks in at No. 4 and the top safety, Murrieta (Calif.) Vista Murrieta star Su'a Cravens, is No. 5.

"Fuller is special because he has good size, he is sneaky quick and he has amazing instincts," said Farrell of the 6-foot, 185-pounder. "You will be hard-pressed to find a smarter corner."

No. 8 is quarterback Max Browne from Sammamish (Wash.) Skyline while No. 9 is running back Thomas Tyner from Beaverton (Ore.) Aloha. They sandwich the nation's No. 7 player overall and No. 2 cornerback Cameron Burrows from Trotwood (Ohio) Trotwood-Madison.

Burrows is just a tick behind Fuller in the rankings.

"Tall cornerbacks often have trouble playing as fluid as their smaller counterparts, but Burrows benefits from all of the advantages of his 6-foot-1, 195-pound frame," said Rivals.com Midwest Analyst Josh Helmholdt. "Burrows has the speed to run with the fastest receivers, and the size to come up and be an asset in run support."

Rounding out the top 10 is new five-star Hargreaves III, yet another cornerback.

"Hargreaves is a do-everything athlete for his high school squad, but at the next level he will be a dominant, shutdown cornerback for whichever college is lucky to land his signature," said Nee of the 5-foot-10, 177-pounder. "He is an outstanding athlete at the cornerback position who does a great job in man coverage. He has smooth footwork at the cornerback position and his athleticism allows him to be in position to make big plays when the ball is put in the air."

Camp Hill (Pa.) Cedar Cliff tight end Adam Breneman is tops at his position and checks in at No. 22 overall.

"It's been awhile since we've had a five-star tight end and Breneman will make a push," said Farrell of the 6-foot-5, 220-pounder. "He just needs to add some size, but as a pass catcher and after the catch he is very polished and advanced for his age."

A few players appear to be knocking on the door early for five-star status. Miami (Fla.) Booker T. Washington linebacker Matthew Thomas and Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas defensive end Joey Bosa are two close to the coveted status from the Sunshine State.

"Bosa is a tall, rangy defensive lineman who shows a lot of playmaking ability and versatility along the defensive front. He has the quick first step, athleticism, and active hands to make him a threat off the edge but he can also go toe-for-toe on the interior as a defensive tackle," said Nee. "He is an aggressive tackler who does a very good job of exploding off the ball, getting off blocks, and taking a direct line to the ball."

Four others include Woodbridge (Va.) C.D. Hylton linebacker E.J. Levenberry Jr., Warren (Mich.) De La Salle quarterback Shane Morris, Concord (Calif.) De La Salle linebacker Michael Hutchings and Joliet (Ill.) Joliet Catholic running back Ty Isaac.

"Levenberry is a big linebacker with good size but who moves very well laterally," said Farrell of the No. 15 player in the nation who is 6-3 and 226 pounds. "He is also exceptional in pass coverage which is rare for such a big kid."

"Isaac is one of the most unique running back prospects to come out of the Midwest in awhile. He is unusually tall for the position at 6-foot-3, but he does an outstanding job of running behind his pads and his agility is unreal for his size," Helmholdt said of No. 18 in the nation. "Isaac is a patient runner and when he sees the hole develop he has the burst to get through it immediately. Of course, his size also allows him to be a physical ball carrier and he can power his way between the tackles. His hands are outstanding and he is also a threat to catch the ball out of the backfield."

Free BuckeyeGrove - Focusing on the new Rivals 100

The Buckeyes are already off to a quick start with the class of 2013 recruiting with a pair of commits and today we learn that both Cameron Burrows and Jalin Marshall are members of the new Rivals100 list. But Urban Meyer and the Buckeyes have their eyes set on a class of more than two guys and have offers out to some of the state of Ohio's and the nation's top stars.

But not every player in the state of Ohio in the Rivals100 has a Buckeye offer with players like Mike McCray, Evan Lisle and Jake Butt still waiting for a call from the Ohio State coaches.

And of course there is Dymonte Thomas who we have included in the list despite being committed to Michigan. Meyer has made the cousin of Bri'onte Dunn a top priority but it will be a tough pull to get him away from That Team Up North.

We're taking a look at who the Buckeyes are in on, either with offers or who is out of the state of Ohio in this first look at the new Rivals100. On Thursday we will expand the list with the Rivals250.

#1: You def could be right about not having a clear definable position.

#2: #41 is hardly low. These ratings are ballpark figures made by guys who are scouts yet not coaches and not recruiting co-ordinators at actual D-1 colleges. There is hardly a quantifiable difference between #19, #41, and #62. The bottom line is Jim Tressell and Urban Meyer both thought of this guy as a must have, centerpiece to a recruiting class. Enough said.

With the way everyone on BP talks, I'm really surprised to Marshall so low. Maybe their excuse is he doesn't have a position yet.

Marshall outside of the top 25 nationally is a joke...he is an elite talent. Also, Foster all the way down at #26? Jaylon Smith at #34 is laughable too...gurantee you if Smith was south of Kentucky, he would have 5 star status (see Bosa at #14, a great DE in his own right, but not the same talent as Smith). They have the right players on the list imo, but some guys are just too low. Foster, Marshall, and Smith all need moved up. Nice to see Holland Fisher on there (I'm hoping we offer him) and McCray. As far as Ohio goes though...how are you going to have Butt and Lisle on that list, but not Zaire? Just on potential alone, Malik HAS to be on this list. Also, pretty surprised to see no LeMay or Heuerman. Overall, not a terrible first try at the top 100 though, we are in on about half of it .

Sidenote: Bosch checked in at #60 (I know it would be easy to miss, that is an extensive list).

I think the most impressive thing is that you see Ohio State in on a lot of the uncommitted guys from out of state. Count me among those surprised to see so many Ohio players on the list that don't have offers from OSU. I would think that would be a strong indicator to the guys at Rivals about what the real professionals think.

I wouldn't take the actual numbers rankings that seriously. Like was stated above, this is basically a list of the top 100 players. Imo, only the top 10 r that much better. Marshals ranking is as good as any. Besides, we all know marshalls talent, as do many many other coaches from his offer list. And who cares about his ranking. Id be fine if they gave him 2stars and gladly laugh at these rankings as marshall tears up the college football landscape

Rivals

2/9

Rivals 250 is out. List isn't working, but here are some blurbs from the article:

Following Robinson and Rodgers are Cleveland (Ohio) Heights wide receiver Shelton Gibson, Destrehan (La.) receiver Rickey Jefferson and Washington (D.C.) Dunbar offensive tackle Derwin Gray at Nos. 103,104 and 105, respectively.

Farrell really likes Gray, a 6-foot-5, 255-pound prospect, even though he was limited last season.

"Even though he missed most of his junior season I saw him play as a sophomore and he has tremendous upside and athleticism," Farrell said. "He is a kid who has a chance to be special on the next level on both sides of the ball."

At No. 106 is Kent (Ohio) Theodore Kent Roosevelt dual-threat quarterback Tra'von Chapman, one of three quarterbacks from the state of Ohio who is rated highly by Rivals.com. That is especially rare since Ohio routinely churns out Division I talent but not usually at the quarterback position.

Rivals.com Midwest analyst Josh Helmholdt said this crop is a little different - and definitely special.

"The state of Ohio kicks out a lot of prospects year after year, but it has never been a great exporter of quarterback talent," Helmholdt said. "This 2013 class is an exception, with three signal-callers ranked in the Rivals250. Tra'von Chapman, Malik Zaire and Brogan Roback each have the ability to run and throw in varying degrees, but they are truly three different quarterback prospects.

"Roback is more of the traditional pro-style passer - a great distributor of the football with exceptional pocket presence. Zaire is the best athlete of the group, with the speed and agility of a running back but also a powerful arm. And Chapman sits directly in the middle of the other two, bringing both outstanding passing credentials and the ability to pick up yards with his feet."

Back to the Midwest, perhaps no prospect has blown up more in recent weeks than Peoria (Ill.) Manual offensive tackle Logan Tuley-Tillman. The 6-foot-7, 280-pound prospect was one of the top performers at the Core 6 Winter Invitational in recent weeks and has parlayed that into even more offers.

Helmholdt said Tuley-Tillman, who is ranked No. 109, now has more than 20 offers.

"Tuley-Tillman is every bit of his listed 6-foot-7 and weighs over 300 pounds," Helmholdt said. "He is an above-average athlete for the offensive tackle position and has the agility to protect the quarterback's blind side."

103. Shelton Gibson
105. Derwin Gray
106. Travon Chapman
109. Logan Tuley-Tillman
111. Greg Gilmore
114. Marcus Baugh
116. Elijah Daniel
117. Michael Parker
119. Tim Kimbrough
125. Jordan Cunningham
130. Billy Price
136. Malik Zaire
142. Marcus McWilson
146. Jayme Thompson
160. Wyatt Shallman
161. Tim Harris
163. Caleb Day
183. Taco Charlton
189. Brogan Roback
212. Uriah LeMay
219. Lovell Peterson
224. Ben Gedeon
242. Ross Douglas
248. Darrien Howard
250. Tashawn Bower

Overall, I think that is a pretty darn good list...every year there will be disagreements but I think Hemholdt is doing a knockout job in getting the Midwest guys more notice. With that said, I think there needs to be a tad more deferrence to what the in state guys are saying and the offer lists.

While it is not a huge difference, you are going to have Billy Price, who had an early offer from JT and honored by UFM, below Chapman (offers from Kent State and Northwestern)? I could see Chapman as a borderline 250 guy, as he is a great athlete in his own right, but 106 and above Price, Zaire, Day, etc. is a tad absurd. I can understand putting Butt and Lisle up so high...there are many in state experts who have them in the top 5-10 players in Ohio this year. Then you have Roback (offers from Toledo and BG) ahead of Gedeon (offers from everyone)...I just think Rivals tries too hard to be "different" from other publications that they don't use common sense on some of this stuff. But it is put up or shut up from me...I am going to make a top 50 list of my own.

I thought, all things considered, Rivals did a pretty great job.

Saying you love one of these site's rankings is like saying you love your insurance carrier. No one loves their insurance carrier...but they might have one they hate the least. Rankings are very similar.
