2013 Rivals/Scout/etc. National & Regional Rankings

It's so easy to debate rankings because they are so subjective. I think Rivals and Scout consistently do the best they can given the resources they have.

One thing that jumped out to me was the ranking of the DEs OSU is actively pursuing.

Joey Bosa at #2...Elijah Daniel at #5...Tashawn Bower at #15. I really think that is low for Bower.

There isn't much difference between a guy ranked #2 at his position and a guy ranked #5. There is a difference between a guy ranked #2 and a guy ranked #15. Granted I haven't seen him in person, but Bower's film and offer list suggest a guy that should be in the top 5 at his position nationally. Whether OSU lands him eventually or not, that's just my take.

One guy I think they are going to have to eventually make room for in the top 300 is stowfan's favorite: Elyria's Tracy Sprinkle.

A couple other Ohio rankings that surprised me involved two Michigan commits...I thought they had Jake Butt way too high and I think they severely undervalued Jaron Dukes. But then again, I think Dukes is going to surprise a lot of people this summer/season.

For Ohio, Caleb Day and Lovell Peterson were the most underrated to me. From all accounts Day had a terrific junior year and one of the best athletes in the class. Think his tape looks really good too. Maybe I view the athleticism part too highly but not sure how you can have Smith over Burrows but that's just me. Backs like Smith aren't all that hard to find, a 6'1-6'2 corner with Burrows' athleticism are. Unless Lovell just doesn't care about football any more, there is no chance the kid is a 3* prospect.

Either way, scout does a great job and the rankings will change a lot during the year.

The kid I really wanna see some tape on is Josh McNeil. Chad Simmons seems to be really high on him and this is a kid who has only been playing football for 1 year and has 20 offers. Think we could get a major steal in him possibly.

Agreed. Green, IMO, takes all of Smith's strengths and betters them. Also, Green's ceiling is immensely higher. I like Smith, but they missed the ball on this one. He should not be within 100 spots of Jalin Marshall. They are just in different leagues. And I don't think he should be within 50 of Burrows or Green either.

Peterson's only offer is from the old Illinois staff. Day had an offer from the old OSU staff but the new staff wants to see him at camp...potentially to work out at WR. To my knowledge he is doesn't have any other firm offers. Not even MAC offers for either of these players. That says something.

Yeah I have no idea about either. I'm pretty sold that they can both play.

McCallister seems pretty convinced about Peterson and everyone else was as well before offers started rolling out or not for him. I think it's pretty evident the kid can play at a really high level, just something is going on where his recruitment hasn't gotten off the ground.

Day earned an offer before his junior year, takes a pretty special athlete to do that and followed it up with a nice junior year. Seemed weird that he had a legit Ohio State offer yet no other teams followed up.

Either way I hope both of them go to camps and show off their talents. We'll find out a year from now how coaches view them.

Michigan has the most ESPNU 150 commits with 11, Texas with 7, Alabama, Florida and Georgia with 6, and OSU has 5.

Thompson, Elliott, and Price are 4 stars, Sprinkle is unranked.

They have a good class, but one has to question whether some of their commits might be ranked a bit high because they have special recruiting site for Michigan.

EDIT: I took a closer look and some of their commits are actually ranked lower than they should be, especially on the o-line. Their two corners (Conley?!?) are ranked too high, but we have two above them.
