2015 NCAA Basketball Tournament Discussion

I'm not naive enough to think this sort of thing doesn't happen, but I never see anyone bring this stuff up when they're happy with the outcome. I guess it's a good thing the refs were on our side in the college football playoffs. :tinfoil:

Then again, sometimes they just fuck up and make mistakes like the rest of us.

Yes, refs make mistakes like everyone else. That's why they are allowed to use replay to fix those mistakes.....

Lots of talk this morning about Duke's offensive players initiating contact and getting foul calls in their favor. I complained about that the entire tournament - more than once in this thread. Not just Duke players, all players. Guys make unnatural motions (legs flailing, etc) or extend their arms to initiate contact and the defense gets called for a foul. I think it's ridiculous but at some point you have to adjust to it and try to play it to your advantage.

They're only allowed to use replay in certain instances, unfortunately. But when they do use it they should get it right. What it doesn't mean - and what I responded to - is that a blown call is prima facie evidence of corruption. I'll say it again, no one ever goes that route when they're happy about the outcome.

What stunned me most about the refereeing last night was how it totally changed in the second half. What was a well played and well called game in the first half turned tremendously in Dukes favor in the second half. The NCAA tournament gets refereed more like the NBA for some reason and the second half looked like an NBA called game to me. I agree @Jake that there was a lot of contact initiated by the Duke offensive play. Wiscy could have done the same thing with Dekker and Kaminsky, but they were to passive with the ball most of the 2nd half.

What the fuck happened to the little picnic table humping varmint I used to know?

It should be impossible for you to root for your mortal enemy over any medium.

Where's the hate? Where's the venom? Where's the guts?

Eh, must be getting soft in my old age. Reverse Stockholm Syndrome or something.

Fuck Bucky and fuck Bo Ryan.

Fuck what happened in the last few minutes last night. Yes I hate UW as much as the next guy when we're on the same court but this team was admirable. This seemed to be a team of destiny and the fucking dookies won in typical bs fashion.

It's time to unionize the refs and give them more than $2/3k per game. Events of this magnitude shouldn't be mark may'd by incompetent officiating.

However, the little devil on my shoulder is screaming "Deal with it".

that is really hard to adjust to when some guy flails his arm or his entire body at you.
This should be in the thread regarding NCAA rule changes that should be made to college basketball. It is way too often that the offensive player initiates the contact and the defensive player gets called for the foul. Something really needs to be done about that type of contact because if they keep allowing it college basketball is going to end up like the NBA style of play.

Why can't someone ask Coach K who paid for Lance Thomas' jewelry bill?

Trust me, it's all going to come out eventually (starting with Corey Maggette era players). It will come out after he retires. He's as dirty as Calipari.
Well in all fairness to Coach Noseshit, it is pretty hard to get that dirty but it is also interesting that no one in the media brought up the fact that the Durham bench was a little "short" because a certain player was suspended from the team due to rape allegations which happened a 1-2 years ago.

I'm going to enjoy hating Grayson Allen for the next three years.

Mike Krzyzewski Admits He’d Like To Smack Grayson Allen’s Precious Fucking Baby Face

INDIANAPOLIS—As confetti streamed down during the team’s national championship celebration, Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski admitted to reporters Monday night that he would absolutely love to smack freshman guard Grayson Allen right in his precious fucking baby face. “Just looking at that dumb smirk and those chubby little boy cheeks makes me want to wind up and backhand the ever-living fuck out of him,” said Krzyzewski, adding that the entire season has been a struggle to resist walking up to the 19-year-old, seizing him by the collar of his jersey, and repeatedly pummeling his petite little chin until it’s swollen and covered in blood. “Any time that little twerp gets excited after scoring a basket, I feel the uncontrollable urge to grab him by the back of the neck and just smash his head against the court over and over and over again. I can’t believe I have to be around this goddamn kid for another three years. I mean, Christ, do you see that elementary-school crewcut he has? I want to go over there right now and strangle him with this basketball net.” Krzyzewski added that he’s currently recruiting an unbelievably irritating high school freshman who can eventually replace Allen as the team’s most unbearable little shit.

One thing I hate about sports these days, if any coach expresses any sort of negative opinion of officiating, they are likely to get some sort of fine and/or reprimand. So if Bo Ryan said anything Monday, he'd get a talking to or fined.

The only sport I can think of these days that you're allowed to talk about the refs freely is MMA, where Dana White openly talks about poor referee decisions after fights.

So you're solution to people sucking ass at their jobs is not to fine or fire them but to make them even harder to fine and fire and pay them more money? This sounds like a terrible idea.
