2016-2017 B1G Basketball (Official Thread)

Attendance at the BTT:
2015 - 118,496 (Chicago)
2016 - 117,051 (Indianapolis)
2017 - 79,441 (Washington) This does not count the Wednesday games, because B10 didn't announce the attendance. Accounts from people that were there say maybe 4-5000 people.

So much for expanding the brand with Maryland. Where is it next year, Newark NJ? :roll1:

Probably because the Big Ten is garbage this season. I can't remember the last time it was this bad.

I agree the B1G seems a tad small this season, the result of which is seeding almost destined to second round failure. Three teams would face the top seed in their regions this weekend, IF they win their first game. To me, that's the measure this year - winning the first game. By seeding, only one B1G is "supposed" to reach the Sweet 16.

The first 1 seed bounced from the tournament came at the hands of an 8-seeded B1G team (Wisconsin), just like everyone expected.

Illinois hires Brad Underwood from Oklahoma State after 1 year at Oklahoma State. Do not know anything about this guy but I thought that Illinois would get a big time or should I say a big-name coach. I do not know maybe this guy is a big-name but I have never heard of him.

He coached Stephen F. Austin for 3 years prior to going to Okie State. They upset WVU in the first round last year before blowing a late lead and falling to NoD by 1 in the round of 32. They upset VCU in the first round in 2014 as well, and reached the tournament again in 2015.

He may be an up and comer (at age 53?) but I'm surprised to see him bolt Stillwater after one good season.

Just thought that they would get someone closer to the Midwest for recruiting purposes but I guess Illinois is not that far from Oklahoma.

Now 7 seeded TTUN takes out a 2 seed, Louisville, in the round of 32. Madness.

The best part? Both of them lost a game to the Buckeyes.

I think Underwood is a good, not great, hire. He'll get them further than Groce did, but I don't think he makes them the kind of powerhouse their fanbase seems to think they should be. I think they'll make the tourney more often than not, but I don't see him having them competing for conference titles.

Just wait. You'll see.
