2016-2017 Ohio State Men's Basketball (Official Thread)

I did see the offer, but didn't include him because I don't know how likely he is to end up here. Looks like a decent prospect, but again, he's the #25 PG, and #107 overall player in the country. And we'd be hoping for him to be a significant contributor. There was a time when a kid with those credentials would be something of an afterthought in a tOSU recruiting class.
Just wanted to make sure you are keeping up on things  because there are a lot of people who do not especially when it comes to the basketball program and recruiting..

Thompson did not try leaving last year. He only went to the NBA evaluation camp to try and improve his game. If he leaves, it certainly will not be for the NBA but for Europe. If Thompson leaves, Potter and Wesson, possibly DF, will have to step up big time to fill his role.

Tate is not going anywhere. His loyalty to the program is unbelievable and I am not really sure if his game is meant for the European league or not.

I could see some team taking a second round flyer on Thompson, but yea he would likely land overseas. This season is probably the best he's going to put together for scouts. There really is no point for him to comeback to a bad team next year.

I guess you can say Tate is loyal. Maybe i'm just thinking very cynically, I just would not be shocked if he decided to leave.

Same with Lyle, though Lyle probably doesn't have many loyalties to the program.

@buckeyemania11 @NFBuck and all the rest of you naysayers.. Just wait until the Big Ten tournament. Thad and the team will show you guys :biggrin2:

If we can beat Indiana and finish above them in the B1G standings I would consider this fail of a season somewhat enjoyable.

Kind of sad that it is at that point, but it is what it is.

I'll go out on a limb and predict Thompson returns. He's about the only success story on the team this year, and if he continues to improve he'll hit the first round of the NBA draft in 2018. Not a bad investment of time for the young man.

Matta is unlikely to be fired after this season, but his chair will have a 55-gallon drum of Sterno alighted underneath. If he somehow could get Thompson to lead the team to the Sweet 16 in 2018, that could save his job and reinvigorate the program.

It would take a lot more than Thompson himself for this team to miraculously morph into a sweet 16 team next season.

Tate and Thompson would be a decent core, not elite caliber but certainly decent enough, but the other players surrounding them leave a lot to be desired.

Maybe KBJ comes out and has a nice season next year but I'm not holding my breath on anyone else.

Well, after 4 of last year's 5 recruits bailed after one season - and another season of 13+ losses - keeping up with recruiting isn't as interesting these days. Call me crazy, but I'm going to need to see better results on the floor to rekindle that level of interest.

Same. Recruiting was exciting when we were talking Oden, Conley, Cook, Koufos, Thomas, Sully, Buford, Craft and Russell. When it's guys not sniffing the top-50, paired with blah results on the court, it's hard to muster up much enthusiasm.
