2016 tOSU Offense Discussion

Sterner defensive tests await but all they can do is dominate who they face.
You know this bastard is going to sternly throw 15 in the box to stop the run.

It comes down to us vs MSU in a one game take all... With how well we play in the back 7 I'd really like to see more hats in the box against MSU.

Last year it was just sickening to watch them pick up 4 yards every play to close out their win.

Need less QB runs in that game as MSU handled JT his ass when our only plan was to run the qb. It has to be the change up to our fast ball of Samuel/Weber/Wilson.

Somehow they'll score points and for the life of me I won't understand how.

This statement will apply to both offense and defense, but this Buckeye team, IMO is what Urban has envisioned for his coaching career. A team with tremendous depth that can wear down any team that its front of them. Outside of OL and the QB I see the entire team rotating and staying fresh which is a big mismatch for almost any team to handle. Our backups are coached up as well as the starters and I honestly don't know of any team in the nation that can say that. Bama boasts 5stars all over the team, but there's a clear drop off in most positions between starter and backup. OSU doesn't have that. In one of the biggest games of the year, early for a very young team, we saw guys who didn't start the year play at OLB and eventually CB and there was no problem. We saw rotations at RB, WR and the entire DL andbyet again no problem. Late in the year when many teams have winded starters we'll have a number of fresh players and backups with solid game reps. That's a very dangerous duo come December.. And to think after this year the class coming in... And then the class after that!

imo it will come down to JT Barrett and his ability to recognize what the defense is doing and make them pay for cheating against the run
Oregon and Alabama tried that and it resulted in several long runs by Zeke. Once through the line there was no one home to stop him.
I disagree. MSU stacked the box hard against OSU every year; and did not respect the deep pass at all. They paid for it a couple of times, and profited from it a couple of times. Alabama and Oregon kept one to two safeties deep, because the respected the deep pass. As they should have, because Devin Smith was very effective on the deep pass.

edit: I would love to have an X or Z receiver routinely catching 50 yarders. But I think OSU's offense can be comparably dangerous if the Y receiver is able to routinely catch 15 yard passes and turn them into 30 yard gains.

Which is what we need to do always IMO as now when we lose players early to the draft we will simply keep plugging people in that have extensive playing time

Don't understand why they're not running the pop-pass fly sweep this season. It's been run once in three games. Noah is killing CBs on perimeter runs with his size and Samuel, Wilson, or Clark all have the jets to break one anytime.

Thought it was underutilized last year with Marshall too. Jalin was getting a good 10 yards a pop every time, then the staff would go away from it to have Braxton run wildcat and dance around for three yard losses.

Keeping it in the back pocket for the right time. Tressel style.

I think Dontre did get one late in the Oklahoma game as well so that makes... 2 times?

Naturally it went for about 12 yards. Sign me up for more of that (and less JT getting hit plays, please).

I don't think there is a BIG school capable of dealing with our best 40+ players anymore. Not for the full 60 minutes anyway. If the offense can get some points early in games and force teams to throw, it might get pretty damn ugly for the rest of the BIG. On a side note..anyone know when the 2014 team got their 3rd pick 6? One of those things that make you wonder just what's possible with these guys.
