2016 tOSU Offense Discussion

Sigh why should I be surprised. Zeke is now proven to be the best RB in the NFL and the coaches ran him like 3 times against MSU last year.
That offense had Zeke, Michael Thomas, and Braxton. ALL STARTING in the NFL. with how Zeke blew up after the MSU loss I'm surprised more didn't flip out.

I'm glad urban brought us a ship' because if not he would be known for doing the least with the most. I'm not kidding and I'm not drunk for that comment either.

55 and 6 and he's won 1 big ten championship in 4 years now.

Just sayin JT (JIM) had the big ten on bitch control.

Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Fucking whoa.

By my count it's 5 losses, not 6: 2013 Michigan St, 2013 Clemson, 2014 Virginia Tech, 2015 Michigan St, and 2016 Penn St. In all five losses Ohio State has either been tied or held the lead in the 4th quarter, and in all five losses Ohio State has had the ball with an opportunity to tie or win on the final possession.

As for the second part, Ohio State wasn't eligible for the Big Ten title in 2012 when they went undefeated, and they've played for the title in two of the other three seasons, and still have all their goals in front of them for 2016. Second, this isn't the shit-show Big Ten that Jim Tressel was running roughshod over. The Big Ten East is legitimately in the conversation with the SEC West as the toughest division/conference in the FBS.

It's a loss, but pump the brakes on the doom and gloom.

I'm more disappointed in the Urban Meyer offenses at Ohio State becauase it's not the Urban offense we expected. Urban is the ex WR coach. Urban wants to score and score fast. Urban wants a dominating offense and defense. He's clearly not getting all of that. I think the current power struggle ends after the MI game.

Well, I think we have the Urban Meyer offense, it just might not be what we assumed it was. He's conservative in his play calling when it comes to the passing game and it's going to remain an issue for the rest of his (hopefully long) tenure at OSU. And that's not a terrible thing; Tressel, Saban, and many other great coaches are the exact same way.

To me, the problem is that the offensive staff just isn't on the same page with one another. They randomly use fragments of the play book and then forget about them. Sometimes Samuel is force-fed the ball, other times he's completely forgotten after a 74 yard TD. Screens are used multiple times in one drive and then never again. The option is being run unsuccessfully for little apparent reason with no success. There is no foundation, and it's as if you're flipping through a playbook and going with plays that catch your eye. The result is zero structure with no apparent strategy to exploit a defense.

Herman made some boneheaded playcalls and we all bitched about it, but he also did a great job coaching the QBs and working with Meyer to create and execute a run-heavy offense that had a solid identity. Beck and Warriner, for whatever reason, have not been able to do that and the team has resorted to Tresselball. Plain and simple Beck needs to go and Warriner needs a different position. The longer you wait to do this, the more you hurt the team and the chances you have with the great players you recruited.

It also doesn't help that there are 0 go-to WRs on this team right now. Brown is the closest thing to it, but he's a slower, smaller version of Thomas. In an ideal world he's a solid 2nd WR to a Smith, Holmes, Jenkins, etc. Everyone else just seems like window-dressing or designated blockers.

How many B1G Championships would JT have if he actually had to play for it like Urban has?

Honestly I wouldn't mind letting him go too. Despite the bad showing last night, Stud's getting it done for the most part. At worst you move Warriner to TE coach.
Uhm....Warriner is already TE coach. Oddly enough our TEs can't block very well tells me he's spending all his time being OC I guess.

The offense is a mess with plenty of blame to go around. When your are the OC or Co-OC you are the leader therefor shoulder the blame along with the coach.

I'm saying make him JUST TE coach, get rid of Beck, and have the new OC be the OC in charge and the QB coach.
