2017-2018 B1G Men's Basketball (Official Thread)

Michigan State will undoubtedly be top-10 with a few more games under their belts. Only 2-1 right now, so smaller sample size.

I don't know, maybe Dakich will be an adequate backup for us come B1G play. 5 assists and 1 turnover his last two games.
i'm full of hope, but i'm not exactly full of optimism. dakich pretty much played no more than 5 minutes for ttun or he didn't play at all. against quick high-major guards who will get in his grill, i think he'll be a sizable liability. at best, he'll probably be a net-neutral guard that defenses can play off of and, therefore, double-team tate, kbd, etc. i pray he rubs these expectations in my face.

Well, the only hope here is that he skipped his senior season at ttun for a reason. In our four games, he's already played three times as many minutes per game as he did his last season up there. His paltry numbers have still been more encouraging here than what he put up there.

What I'm trying to say is I think he would have had an "all right" senior season up there, but thankfully he saved it for Columbus. I am absolutely hoping for "all right", because we really didn't even have that hope going into the season.

By no means am I saying CJ and Dakich in the back court is going to help us contend for the B1G this year. I'm just hoping for mitigated inadequacy.

I am just afraid that we might lose a couple games in the last few minutes because when we have a lead going into the last couple minutes of a game teams are going to press us and I just do not see an Ohio State back court that will handle it. Hopefully, CJ and Dan along with the rest of the team will prove me wrong and they can start late tomorrow night/Friday morning proving me wrong.

purdue loses to wku. big ten continues its descent.
I know that there are a lot of people that disagree with me but I just do not think that Painter is a very good coach. He might be a decent recruiter but when it comes to the x's and o's I just do not think that he is that good. He has some pretty decent talent on that team and so will be interesting to see how they develop going forward.

don't disagree. painter does enough not to be fired but not enough to be revered. purdue under painter has been a consistent top 4 team (in the b1g, of course) but has done nothing exceptional. the boilermakers haven't been to the elite eight in almost 20 years, which is bad. they lead the conference in all-time conference titles but are sixth over the last 20 years.

if i were to guess, i'd say painter has kept his job mostly because he's 11-9 versus indiana.

Painter often has failed to place an adequate emphasis on having great leadership and efficiency from the guard positions, he has often had teams that have been a notch below where they needed to be in terms of backcourt proficiency and skill. His teams often are easier to knock off than they should be because of a lack of control at the guard positions.

Had a run where it seemed like he only relied on transfers. He just wants his guards to play defense, but they usually have very little skill otherwise. Definitely hurts his team.

Minnesota let Alabama rally against them ... with a 2-man advantage for the last 10 minutes of the game. Seriously. You would not think it possible to gain ground going 3 on 5, but I have to say it takes some poor coaching to let an undermanned team rally against you. At some point you have to figure out how to exploit a triangle and 0 defense. MN won the game, but still I find it an abomination. Edit: noticed after posting this is covered in the college basketball season thread
