The good news is it is perfectly plausible that OSU can finish the season at 15-3 in the B1G with a couple of wins this week. That would still be a great season. We are at the point where fans are disappointed in falling to second place with a week left in the season - it's been five years since the last time OSU was even in the top-4 of the B1G.

Ohio State's loss to Michigan was less surprising than its 23-point shellacking at the hands of Penn State on Thursday, but the loss to the Wolverines made a bigger impact.
The Buckeyes no longer control their own destiny for a Big Ten title following a 74-62 loss to their archrival on Sunday afternoon, but Chris Holtmann doesn't seem overly concerned.
"If you're a college player and you go into a couple of games on the road against good teams and you expect them to be easy or expect not to deal with some adversity – and we haven't had a lot of that throughout the Big Ten season – everybody goes through that," Holtmann said. "This is what we signed up for. This is what (the players) signed up for when they signed to play in the Big Ten and this is what I signed up for to coach in.
"We had a heck of a start. We just have to take steps to play better."
The last time Ohio State suffered back-to-back losses was late November, when the Buckeyes dropped their final game of the PK80 Invitational to Butler, followed by a home game to Clemson. Following that stretch, Holtmann's squad won 13 of its next 14 games.
Despite falling into second place in the conference behind Michigan State, Holtmann said he hasn't addressed the standings with his team, adding there are still a number of games to be played. Ohio State is guaranteed at least four more games this season: two regular-season games, and at least one in each postseason tournament.
"There is too much basketball to be played. Our last two (regular season) games are going to be really challenging," Holtmann said. "I don't know if that affects (our mindset) in any way."

It's a real shame we lost Braxton Beverely. He would have filled a need on this team badly. Good 3 point shooter, don't know how well he handles the ball but I'm sure it's better than Dakich. Really wished he would have stayed

Ball handling was always going to be this team's achilles heel. It looked like they had shown some marked improvement lately, but it certainly reared its ugly head yesterday.

Getting the one seed was important because it meant only having to go through one of Boiler and Sparty. A 2 or 3 is irrelevant because it means having to go through both either way. Agree on the pedsters. That team is kryptonite for this Buckeye team.

RE-EXAMINING REASONABLE EXPECTATIONS FOR OHIO STATE AS THE SEASON WINDS DOWN
Following an upset win over No. 3 Purdue and a thrashing of Iowa, we discussed on this very site about how Ohio State could possibly make a Final Four run with the way it was playing.
There is a chance we jumped the gun.
Ohio State has lost its last two games by double digits and been exposed in areas many of us thought they would be all season. The Buckeyes had been playing above their own ceiling for much of the season, and now, it appears the Scarlet and Gray are starting to come back to Earth.
That isn't to say the team can't right the ship in the last two regular season games of the season and make a run in the Big Ten tournament. If there is one thing that has remained consistent with the Buckeyes all season, it has been their resiliency, led by senior forward Jae'Sean Tate.
The veteran, who scored 20 points and corralled 15 rebounds in a loss to Michigan on Sunday, said that despite Ohio State no longer controlling its own destiny in the Big Ten, the Buckeyes' mindset stays the same.
"At the end of the day, we are just looking at the game we have ahead of us. One by one," he said.
f you take that same approach, the Buckeyes return home on Tuesday to take on a Rutgers team that has yet to win a road game this season. The Scarlet Knights have collected just three conference victories all season and fell to the Buckeyes, 68-46, on their home floor in January.
From there, Ohio State ends the regular season with a Friday night showdown with Indiana, a team that as of Monday is riding a four-game winning streak and playing its best basketball of the season. The Hoosiers have won three of their last four games by double digits and still have a chance to leap Penn State in the Big Ten standings.
So what are realistic expectations for Ohio State now that the Buckeyes appear to have been exposed, especially at the guard position? While I won't put a cap on what this team is capable of – they have proven they can beat anyone in the country on a good night – I will say my personal expectation is a Sweet 16 run, and not much more.
What Chris Holtmann has been able to do in his first season at Ohio State has been nothing short of extraordinary. He took a team that was picked to finish outside the top 10 in the league and as of a week ago, had it at the top of the conference standings with just one Big Ten loss. He has already locked up Big Ten Coach of the Year honors, in this man's opinion, and should be on the short list for national coach of the year awards.

"It's really our responsibility as coaches and players to adjust to that," Holtmann said of the suggestion that each game is officiated differently depending on which officials are working the game. "You do a little bit of a scouting report on officials too, for sure."
Kind of ridiculous that coaches have to spend time preparing for the officials they will have for a game. Does that happen in every other sport? I wish someone would ask Holtmann if he notices a difference between B1G officiating and other conference officiating

I have no idea why Potter did not see any minutes against ttun. It is not like Young was lighting up the scoreboard. I know defensively Young might be better on the perimeter but offensively at least Potter will shoot the ball and sometimes it will even go in. Young was reluctant to even shoot the ball so there are no chances of the ball going in the basket.

As much as I hate to admit it, basketball is probably the most difficult sport to officiate because it moves at such a fast pace and it is very difficult for officials to always have the best angle on a play. Also, basketball officiating might be the most objective officiating of all the sports. It is not really cut and dry like other sports and there are quite a few bang bang plays that could go either way. I am not saying that I agree with the way basketball games are officiated because I certainly am not happy when a call goes against the team (Ohio State) that I want to win.
Holtmann was asked on his radio show if he thought a fourth official might be needed in basketball but while he probably thought so, I think his response of it would probably be too much, or something to that extent, was accurate.
