Game Thread 2017 B1G Championship Game: OSU vs. Wisconsin - 12/2/17 @ 8:00 ET (FOX)

There's something to be said for sleeping it off....

This game was a perfect microcosm of the season. Lot's of glimpses of the true potential of the talent of this team, a great display of toughness and explosive play making, but at the same time, we were treated to the maddening inconsistencies that come with young teams trying to learn how to win.

It would be nice to make the playoffs, but the 1st and 2nd goals have been achieved - beating scUM and winning the B1G. If that's not good enough for some stupid made for TV nonsense , oh well...

Victories over both Michigans, stealing one from Penn State, beating a good Wisconsin team on a neutral site, perhaps forcing the NCAA into revising the playoffs. Not a bad year. Wrapping up the holidays by turning Kelly purple or deflating Darnold's hype would be the perfect topping.

Starting off the new year with Haskins and the next Doug Flutie, three solid running backs, a fleet of swift receivers, Bosa and Borland. Penn State's offense gone. Michigan still looking for a QB and a running game... Things could be much worse, we could be Tennessee - wandering in the wilderness, looking for a coach with a pulse willing to take the job.

If you go back through this thread, you will see many snowflakes with negative comments during the game.. "to make mistakes is easy, to do better may be difficult"..... Snowflakes: STFU and stand with the team win or lose...Could you imagine the posts if this forum was accessible during the Cooper years(most of these Snowflakes aren't old enough to remember the pain), they have been spoiled.

It is 100% possible to still 'stand with the team' while pointing out areas for improvement. If we didn't do that, our current DC would be Everett Withers and our current OC would be Mr. Beck.

Put simply - pointing out flaws is how we get better.

I haven't sen this mentioned or posted so a shout out to Wisconsin fans;

Listen you small time fucktards, you may want to consider the absurdity of using another teams score against OSU as your main "burn" point for the weekend next time.

I swear to Woody, all you heard from the mouthy one's (which is all of them-just add alcohol) was "55-24"

they were even doing the Iowa bird chomp thing

I couldn't come up with a better insult to make you queens seem small time if you gave me a week to work on it.

Fuck Bucky you no talent, envious ass clowns.

Quite possibly.
However, when fans start talking about the hypotheticals of getting blown out, then, to me, it comes off that somehow the way the Buckeyes perform actually plays a role in how said fans feel about themselves or how others might view them. That, in and of itself, is a problem.
There's not a soul on BP that is suiting up for the Buckeyes. I always enjoy win the Buckeyes win, but also support the shit out of the team when they lose. I only get to see this team play 12-15 times a year. I enjoy the ride regardless of where THEY take me.

Again, I don't think any of those things are mutually exclusive. I always support this team. I went to school in the South after the great humblings of '07 and '08, and I still wore my Buckeye gear with pride.

However, "supporting the team when they lose" certainly does not mean we shouldn't say anything bad about the team. Saban, Belichik, Hayes are great coaches because they were always looking for ways to get better, no?

I was sharing from my POV, and not all the context you've brought into the discussion. You're welcome to share as far as I'm concerned, but I think it would serve you better to let the evening be enjoyed when the Buckeyes win the B1G Championship. Then after a couple days, you can share your observations. I mean, shit, brother, nothing's even been decided yet.
Furthermore, Urban's teams with a month of preparation is a wonderful thing (outside of what I consider a fluke last year).

That absolutely sucks that the fans at the game were like that.
I'm no fan of Wisky (although @Bucky32 is a good dude), but Paul Chryst is one hell of a respectful coach. I really like that guy.

Everything starts and ends with the lines. If you lose in the trenches, you're gonna have a bad time. Offensively, I figured the Ohio State defensive line was going to be the best unit they'd seen all year. I was right. Deiter had his hands full with Bosa, who is a heck of a player. OSU's gameplan was patently obvious: sell out to stop Taylor and make Hornibrook beat you. And who could blame them? They had the players to do it and executed it to perfection last night. Credit to Greg Schiano in that sense.

The defensive line was getting pushed back almost from the start. If you're Ohio State and you know you can get 4-5 yards automatically on first down, it takes a ton of pressure off the rest of your offense. Even when hobbled with the leg injury, Barrett just sort of picks his way through the defense and isn't afraid to be physical when needed.

The huge plays that OSU ripped off for touchdowns in the first half were killers (duh). When you're playing a team like OSU, if you miss a tackle, you have to know that it can go the distance in a snap. Don't fill a hole properly? It's 6 points. Ultimately it wasn't an effort gap last night, but rather pretty clearly a talent one. Have to close that somehow. Tip of the cap to Van Ginkel though, he almost singlehandedly kept the team in the game for large stretches.

Now for Hornibrook. He never gives his critics any shortage of ammunition, that's for sure. The interception on the first drive was vintage Alex, and I thought really it colored the rest of the half. He seemed to be fading away on a lot of his throws, even the screen passes, and I chalk that up to the Ohio State d-line. They only sacked him only once, I believe, but otherwise harassed him for four quarters. At the end of the day, if you look at a stat line and see that he was asked to throw 40 times, you can't feel real good about UW"s chances. I don't know who will be starting for the Badgers under center come 2018, but I have a hunch that Paul will stick with his guy for better or worse. We'll see.

Last night was very frustrating, because this program has done just about everything but take that next, huge step. One of these years...

Don't get me wrong, OSU fans outnumbered Wisky fans 2-1 (or worse)

They were just annoying fucks (as they have always been). You know what really shows what a low class individual you are? When you, as a group and consistently over time, feel the need to try and yell out and disrupt the other schools band or Carmen Ohio.

They are seriously the only fanbase I have ever seen who does that stupid shit and they do it no matter what (even after they lose), just to be annoying fucks.

I respect Chryst but I also remember the '90's. Fuck Wisconsin right in their collective non talented ass.

They are like the old dudes who show up at the basketball court and run the weave.
