2017 College Football Playoffs (and Other Bowl Games)

Buckeyes trying to make history in more than just the two-loss department. No CFP team has had a loss of more than 14 points during the season. The Buckeyes have two such losses this season.

In a nutshell, you've defined why I think the Buckeyes have no business in the playoffs this season.
Meh, there were some fairly legit arguments we shouldn’t have been in the ‘14 playoffs and we bitch slapped Bama and took the plunger to Oregon. I’m simply saying we were #4 and several people thought we didn’t belong yet we were clearly the better team when the singing was done.

We don’t deserve to be there at this point due to the 2 blow out losses but the season isn’t over and we don’t know how it all shakes out. But to say we don’t belong, as if we aren’t good enough, is certainly debatable at this point. No one looks dominant. There are about 8 teams that look like they are grouped fairly close compared to previous years. The thing is, of those 8, several have already played close to their ceiling. Yet when OSU plays to their ceiling, they look like they could steam roll anyone.

Again, the obvious ~ the committee is gonna do everything in their power to keep the Buckeyes out as they should. 2002 Ohio State won all their games ... barely, but did they pass the eye test? Hell no!

Remember this when evaluating 2017 'bama/Clemson/Miami who have won and lost (1 loss) ugly. Yes, Clemson's one loss was ugly, but not 55-24 ugly!!!

Re: CFP & Bowl Games there are many variables: the longgg layoff over the holidays, being an underdog, focus, dedication, preparation, favorable location, thinking about the upcoming NFL draft, luck, etc. etc.

In a nutshell, bowl games are a crap shoot!

Along w/'bama/Okla/the U winning out, the Buckeyes also need Clemson losing to the Gamecocks.

Yielding back the balance of my time ...

I'd change "Miami winning out with Clemson losing to SC" to "the loser of the ACC championship game losing the previous week." In other words, Clemson losing to SC and Miami is one way for OSU to sneak in, but so is Miami losing to Pitt and Clemson. I am starting to think though that one of those needs to happen. Only other way is a blowout in the ACC championship game for either team and a blowout in the B1G Championship game for OSU.

1. Alabama 11-0
2. Miami 10-0
3. Clemson 10-1
4. Oklahoma 10-1
5. Wisconsin 11-0
6. Auburn 9-2
7. Georgia 10-1
8. Notre Dame 9-2
9. Ohio State 9-2
10. Penn State

Your best scenario, is Alabama, Miami, Oklahoma, and OSU winning out.
Bama and OSU win out, that knocks out #5 Wisconsin, #6 Auburn, and #7 Georgia. Miami winning out knocks out #4 Clemson. Path is now clear to the #4 spot.

A 10-2 ND has no chance, assuming they beat Stanford, and you will jump them with a 10-2 record and a Big10 conference title. STRONG win AT TSUN and a good win over Wiscy would do it.

If the above occurs, and they let ND in over OSU, they would have zero credibility with the media, schools, conferences, and worst of all: the fans.

I'm not sure if they'd put OSU in over a 2 loss Clemson. Maybe, but I'd still need to see it to believe it. I think Miami or Clemson needs to lose this week and then lose in the championship game. If that happens and Bama/Oklahoma win out, I'd put OSU's chances at 90%. If it doesn't I'd say 10%.

You think they want to put in a team that just lost its last game, to another team in the same playoff over a team that just knocked off an undefeated top 5 opponent and won their conference with the same exact record? I dont.

You're only looking at one game, not the entirety of a season. Maybe it's enough to get them in over the loser of the ACC but it's very possible it won't. I'll be rooting hard for Pitt Friday and SC Saturday and if neither upset happens I'll be rooting for a blowout. Don't really care by who, but if it were to happen it feels like it would be Clemson blowing out Miami. But I see a 27-17 game for Clemson and I wouldn't call that a blowout.

The only teams that matter now are Bama, Clemson,OU, UGA, Miami, Wisky, Auburn, and us.

We have to root for Bama the rest of the way. They aren't going to drop behind us, and if they have 2 losses and so do we, guarantee the playoff committee is putting them in over us.

We want OU to win out for sure, easy one there, builds our SOS and even if they did lose once they would be ahead of us.

Rooting for Miami to beat Clemson, I think we would be in over Clemson with 2 losses and no conference title.

In the end, we deserve to be the first 2loss team to make it, if we don't make it over another 2 loss team I would be very upset unless that other 2 loss team is Auburn winning out. Other than that, we don't deserve to be in compared to any 1 loss team, even a 1 loss team that doesn't win their conference. We lucked out for that last year, we can hardly complain if the tables are turned on us for it. We blew it on our own. I am not getting my hopes up at all for CFP, I just want to see us spank TTUN and Wisky for B10 title, after that whatever happens happens

I don't necessarily agree with the teams you listed. I actually think the CFP Committee is going to look for any good reason to keep Ohio State out.

Yes: Bama, Clemson, OU, UGA, Miami, Wisky, Auburn, tOSU

POSSIBLY: Notre Dame (only losses are to GA and Miami-- both could be Conference Champs). This one is not as likely as:

USC

Kirby Hocutt this week (on separation between OSU and USC):

“Well, not a whole lot, Hocutt said. “We spent considerable time this morning in our evaluations of teams 9 and 11. Those three teams right there are very close in our discussion. Obviously Ohio State has the head-to-head victory over Penn State.

“We continue to be impressed with the Southern California team who has played very well as of late. They fought through a number of injuries early in the year. As they got healthy, they started playing better and better, so that was a very talented team we saw in Southern California.”'

Sounds to me like they're ramping up a campaign for USC. We need things to fall our way especially with Bama. If they lose I don't think we have a chance. But, I also believe if we don't blow the doors off scUM and Wisky, it could be USC.
