Game Thread 2017 Cotton Bowl: OSU vs. USC - 12/29/17 @ 8:30 ET (ESPN)

My dad was there for Simple Jim's crying antics at Ohio State. He fumes just thinking about it still.

Yup. I was there, too. Is that not a rule anymore? I know it's never called, anymore. But the fact that it was EVER a rule bothers me.

USC with 7 straight wins in the series... way overdue that we end it... Been a bunch of close games in that span

And some not-so-close games...

Interesting article about some computer that simulated our matchup 10,000 times and that it has an over 70% confidence in a Buckeye win. Average score ended up being 35-21, and not surprisingly, the computers found that our Run game versus their Run D was the factor most in our favor.

Memo to coaches: Run JK and Weber. Oh, fine. Run JT, too.

Cotton and peach weaseled their way into being New Years 6 bowls. Fiesta, sugar, rose and orange are historically the top bowls, but we needed 6 so there we go. A traditionalist will say WTf. Future generations will see cotton as great.
Yeah, but if you go back a little farther the original big 4 bowls were Rose, Orange, Sugar and Cotton.

If you think history began in 1993, that might be true.

The Cotton bowl began in 1937. The Fiesta began in 1971. When I was a kid, the Fiesta Bowl was a joke where WAC teams played. The four new year's bowls were Cotton, Rose, Sugar, and Orange. The Cotton Bowl lost some its luster when the Southwest Conference, who hosted it for 50+ years, evaporated in the mid-90s. Only then did the Fiesta Bowl become a big deal.
