2017 tOSU Defense Discussion

And now we have Hill back and Jones is returning. This will really solidify the middle.

That is crucial...having those guys back is going to pay dividends throughout the rest of the season. Jones, Sprinkle, Hill and Cornell is one hell of a rotation inside, especially with Cornell's emergence this year. Through in Landers and Hamilton, with the situational sliding down of Holmes and Bosa inside...that is rolling deep.

Yeah, our DL across the board is just sick. Young and Cooper are coming on at DE and then there's also the Rushman package. Then there's the best Defensive line coach in CFB...

Absolutely. The versatility is remarkable as well, lots of guys can shift into different positions and make it appear seamless. Very excited to see how they do against the Corn this weekend but by the time we hit PSU at home, we should be full boar on DL and that is scary.

Pass defense needs to get better before we play the pedsters. It seems as though if we do not get to the QB we have problems on the back end. I do not know if it is the talent or the concept but it needs to be corrected and fast.
We also did not have much success in putting pressure on Nebraska's QB. I really cannot think of him getting sacked one time.

You just said it though.. We didn't get home on the QB nearly enough as evidence of having zero sacks.

Credit them for that though because it seemed to me they emphasized that. I went back and watched the game and no joke probably 250 of their 300 yards came on 4 passes. To expand even further it was Spielman their 3rd WR that made all the plays.

For the most part we eliminated their top two threats and their tight ends. We forced them to find their 3rd receiver which is a great thing normally. If we can continue to take away teams top 2 WRs and the tight ends we can live with a 3rd WR having a good day. 200 yards is definately alarming but 120 of it came on two plays and the rest or it came in relative garbage time.

Credit them though they went max protect and had some big bodies in there to help take away our pass rush. That's something that we wont see again other then maybe scum, Iowa or MSU and none of them have the skill at WR that NU has.

Also any team that doesn't get home on the QB is going to give up a lot of yards. Teams haven't gotten to JT mugh this year and he's been throwing at a historic pace. Any secondary will struggle if there isn't pressure.

Not getting a sack or much pressure won't happen again in my opinion.
