2018-2019 B1G Men's Basketball (Official Thread)

But then you remember it's Painter/Purdue in March.
Halfway joking. They have had some really unlucky years and then some dreadful outings. In the end, most Purdue fans I know are waiting for the other shoe to drop at all times (i.e. Carsen and Cline going ice cold in a tournament game).

Those 2 could win a Final 4 game or lose a 1st round game.

iowa made our win look worse by getting blown out the next game to rutgers, and now purdue following up our shellacking with a 10-point deficit to minnesota at the half.
Matt Painter teams, man. This sort of stuff has happened for years. They handled a great OSU team in Mackey in 2011 but were blown out in Columbus and then got blown out in the second round by VCU in spite of having E'Twaun Moore and JaJuan Johnson. Painter is mostly pretty terrible at getting the right complementary starters. Aside from the big class with Hummel and those other guys, he rarely has put together a cohesive & talented group without any weak links.

If Hummel hadn't gotten injured in 2010, they should have been in the Final 4. But other than Hummel's injuries, they haven't been unlucky, just poorly constructed to compete at the highest levels of CBB away from home.

Isaac Haas was an impact player last year. Gets tangled up and breaks his arm First Round. Thought they had makings of an E8/F4 team.

But yeah, I mostly agree. Painter teams just have a knack for coming apart this time of year.

not that i took any pleasure in it, but there is some poetic justice with purdue losing haas to an injury caused by a hook-and-hold when haarms is the worst offender of it. no player uses the h-and-h more than haarms does. i would find pleasure in someone decking him.
