2018-2019 B1G Men's Basketball (Official Thread)

I feel bad for Tim Miles, I think he is an honest coach and a good guy, he just wouldn't cheat in recruiting in order to win more. That being said, Hoiberg probably would win a little more there.
he was regularly getting guys ranked in the 100s from 2013 through 2017, though. the average for the 6 players in the 2018 and 2019 classes is about 350th. other than his first-round exit back in 2014, he's done no better than doc sadler did in the 6 seasons before miles got there. nice guy, but he's a complete "meh" as a coach.

nebraska is just a sucky program. other than a run from '86 to '98 when they went to the tournament 6 times, they have absolutely no history going for them. they've never won a single tournament game and their last conference championship occurred before color tv began broadcasting. their only chance at success is to hire an up-and-comer whose system doesn't require top talent or pony up for a coach with actual name recognition.

BigTen coaching ranks continue to improve. Still a few albatrosses- Chambers, Pitino, Collins (not that I'll complain).

Miles was a solid coach, but good on Corn for aiming a little higher.
I wouldn't say there are any albatrosses in the league, as the quality of teams in the bottom tier was notable this season. Collins is probably doing the worst job all things considered, but even he has been OK, he just has problems motivating his team to play their best on a consistent basis.

Hoiberg is sort of a best-possible, grand slam hire for Corn. One of the splashiest B1G basketball hires in recent memory. Hoiberg is gonna be Lord of the Transfer Portal there, and I imagine they will get 2-3 of the top grad transfers just about every cycle. It may take him a year or two but he's an excellent coach, roster manager, player developer (one could argue that he was in some ways the best coach in the Big 12 when he was at ISU) so he should have Corn as a perennial top half of the B1G team sooner than later.

Romeo gone. Not surprised by either tidbit. His hand was getting taped and re-taped all season. Definitely not the shooter I saw in HS.

Still, hilarious (sad) to watch IU fans badmouth him. Nothing like getting a top 5 recruit, having him average 17/5/2 as a freshman (!) and being upset at the kid. Gee, what kid wouldn’t want to sign up for that?! Their banner chasing continues to cloud their judgment.

Archie has a lot to replace.

Key recruits: PG DJ Carton (247Sports No. 28), SF Alonzo Gaffney (247Sports No. 42), PF EJ Liddell (247Sports No. 45)
Key decisions: C Kaleb Wesson is not projected as a first-round pick but could choose to go through the pre-draft process.

other b1g teams:
24. Maryland
21. Iowa
9. Purdue
4. TTUN
2. MSU

without going through each of the rosters of the other ranked teams, i think 15th is fair. we return a lot of key parts and, perhaps more importantly, address this year's specific deficits with incoming talent. our ballhandling and playmaking will be much, much better.
