2018-2019 College Basketball Discussion (Official Thread)

I know there was some St. John's talk earlier. Shamorie Ponds is fun to watch. Reminds me of D'Angelo Russell- has that laid back, NBA game where everything is slow motion to him at this level. Mixes in some flash with his passes, can score when he wants, the court is his.

Next level player.

ESPN had a brilliant comparison during the K-State @ OU game. They spent a couple of minutes of air time comparing Larry Bird to Brady Manek of the Sooners, including showing multiple side-by-side photo comparisons and a statistical comparison as well. They even had a taped interview segment where the ESPN reporter was interviewing Manek in advance of the game and the whole interview was about comparing him to Larry Bird. Averaging 30 ppg and 10 ppg in college is pretty much the same. Makes a lot of sense.

I watch a lot of basketball. I see my share of basketball wedgies (ball stuck between rim and backboard).

I’ve maybe never (once?) seen the ball land on the back of the rim and sit.

Dayton just had that happen, down 4 with 20 seconds. Jump ball went to VCU. Ouch.

And for those entertaining purposes...paging Scott Van Pelt and the “bad beat” brigade.

Edit- actually, I think I used to screw around after practice and try to sit the ball up there. That was standing still, 1 foot away. This was off a baseline, runner in a game. Amazing.

They’ve been pushing that comparison in every OU game. Yeah the kid has goofy blonde hair and a dirty blonde ‘stache. He’s nothing special otherwise. First game I watched where they wouldn’t shutup about it- Manek went 2-11, 0-5 3pt. Not close to Larry Legend.

Christian James for the Sooners is a player though.

I dont get it, man. What's next, comparing CJ Jackson to Stonewall Jackson?

I honestly believe whoever wins the Ivy league will be a legit threat to win a game in March. Penn really showed me something by beating Villanova, the Quakers have some really good, quick players. Princeton swept Penn so I was thinking maybe Princeton could be a Cinderella. If it was the SEC the kid probably wouldn't have even been arrested by campus cops, but in the Ivy League the schools tend to be pretty strict.
