Illinois' athletic program is remarkably awful. They're about halfway between Chicago and St. Louis, have over 30,000 students, and flat out suck in football AND basketball.

They did make a bad hire with Brad Underwood. From an X and O standpoint, it doesn't look like his style is going to work in the B1G. Illinois just can't seem to find a coach who will both elevate their program and stay long term.

I don't think Underwood is a bad hire for Illinois, it is way too early to say that, but I do think he needs to adjust his defensive strategy so that it is not so dependent on forcing turnovers, and for both the sake of his offense and defense he really needs a big that can protect the rim and grab rebounds (and make outlet passes)--they might have got that coming in Antwan January coming next season, or maybe Samba Kane develops into that, but yeah. Giorgi might have been a steal in terms of his offense vs. his ranking but the Illinois frontcourt is still desperately missing some attributes that it needs for the team as a whole to succeed.

I feel this UVA team once again looks like an upset victim in the tournament. They have good enough talent to win a lot of games, but relying so heavily on playing low-scoring games, all it takes is a decent team with one guy who is really good and can break down your defense to send you packing.
