2018-2019 College Basketball Discussion (Official Thread)

I haven't the patience to sit through the rest of the final minute foul-o-rama (going on 10 minutes already), but it appears all Creighton did was make Gonzaga mad. The Jays are going down, no matter how many fouls they commit in these last 30 seconds.

There you go, foul again down 9 with 3 seconds left - you might just pull it out. :roll1:

college basketball would take a leap forward if coaches were given the choice between shooting foul shots and taking the ball out of bounds when fouled during the final two minutes. if football coaches can deny penalties, why not basketball coaches?

Teams would still foul to stop the clock then hope to get a steal. They'd call time outs to set up inbounds plays too, so we'd still crawl to the finish line.

My position has been that the 1-1 get replaced by 2 shots and the double bonus be 2 shots and the ball. Intentionally fouling would actually hurt you. Imagine that.

the time it takes to take the ball out of bounds after a foul still takes a lot less time than shooting free throws after a foul.

so let's say osu is down 1 point to indiana with 45 seconds to go. indiana has the ball, which means osu can play straight-up defense throughout the whole shot clock. but indiana is already in the double-bonus and osu fouls unintentionally while playing solid defense. you think it's not way too much of a penalty to osu if indiana gets two free throws and the ball?

also, the 1-and-1 being replaced by 2 shots at the end of a game is too much of a penalty on the team that has done a good job not fouling. it's a fine change for when the game turns into a foul-fest, but it's a killer in a close game when fouls are not intended.

I was thinking GA St might be halfway decent, now that they have beaten UGA and Bama this year. Playoff-caliber perhaps? But then again they did lose their last game before tonight by 26 to Liberty.

I think Ga State was either picked 1st or 2nd in the Sun Belt this year depending on who you ask.

Bama and UGA arent very good teams though. Bama already got wrecked by Northeastern earlier this season, UGA got destroyed by Ga State and looked terrible against the only "good" team they've played (scoring 49 points vs Clemson)
