2018-2019 Ohio State Men's Basketball (Official Thread)

I agree. The only big negative take-away from with the Cuse game was it seems like a bit of a bad omen about what we can expect against teams that can out-size, out-athlete, out-talent us. Which will be a decent number of teams, because right now we're not especially athletic, we're on the smallish side for a high-major, and our talent level is MOR.

Friends and family of the teams are probably the only ones besides me catching this score, but Samford just hit a 3 to take a very good Belmont team to overtime.

Looking to go to 8-1 on the season. I keep saying this was a good team the Bucks played.

Edit- can’t pull it off. 93-99 Belmont.

If you had told me last month that the Bucks would go 2-1 at Cincinnati, at Creighton, and vs Syracuse I'd have probably taken it.

Agree. It wasn't a particularly good loss....arguably quite bad on several fronts. Something the team can come back from though. Hockey seemed to have been reborn as some hard, pipehitting motherfuckers after Bowling Green beat them down 8-2. Let's see how these guys respond.

wonder if the staff will start to play woods as the primary ballhandler when jackson is also on the court. neither is the ideal primary ballhandler, but i trust the ball being in keyshawn's hands more than cj's right now. this change would also set jackson up for success, which is converting set-shots.

I actually think CJ is the better ball handler but his decision making has me dreadful as of late. I imagine it will be a game to game thing considering Key has had his struggles as well. Generally, it will be a continuation of ball handling by committee with CJ, Luther, Key, and Duane.

Honestly, from a decisionmaking standpoint alone, Washington looked the best last night. He was about the only guard who didn't throw the ball directly into an Illinois steal.

Good win last night against an Illini squad with very little talent but a lot of scrappiness. Illinois looks like a low-mid-major right now. Whatever it is that Underwood accomplished at Okie State isn't evident in Champaign-Urbana.

The entertainment factor of his furious anger + ease of reading his lips + BTN camera iso + desire to get a T + refs who wouldn't give it = more fun for me watching an opposing coach go nuts than I can remember in a long, long time.

The guy is comedy gold

CJ was bad with turnovers/decision-making and rode the bench a lot as a result. Only played 19 mins.

But Washington also tried to make a dumb behind-the-back pass that promptly became a turnover, and he went to the bench.

Holtmann knows his team is rarely gonna be able to afford 20 turnovers in B1G play.

Thing is, on paper in terms of HS recruiting rankings, our team is not much more talented (if at all--at least Illinois has a 5-star in Dosunmu). Just our team is a little more balanced, maybe, and seems to have a little more composure in terms of winning games? Perhaps that reflects on the coach, though I think Underwood can succeed at Illinois if he gets the kind of guys he needs to run his stuff well, or if he can bend his system a bit to the guys he does have.

Jardy pointed out the reality that this OSU team has no stars right now. "The Buckeyes do not have a player in the top 23 in the Big Ten in scoring, in the top 13 in rebounding, the top 15 in field goal or three-point percentage or assists or the top 13 in assist-to-turnover ratio."
