2018-2019 Ohio State Men's Basketball (Official Thread)

I was really hoping that we'd get the Gavitt game at home since all our other premier OOC games are away and the ACC Challenge is likely to be, as well. Add in that we only play IU and scUM on the road, and our home schedule is shaping up to be garbage while we have a lot of tough road games. Not a great combo for a young team.

It is embarrassing if they have zero notable home games in nonconference as it appears likely, especially since they aren't playing in a nonconference tournament yet again. It isnt a surprise that they were due zero home games from Gavitt and the ACC, and not playing a true road game last year in OOC.

SMH at the small-minded, small school scheduling that CH is letting continue. Pretty ridiculous that CH claims he errs on the side of a tougher OOC schedule and lets OSU schedule yet another parade of cupcakes with no tournaments that we have seen for most of the last 9 seasons, counting 2019.

UC and Creighton are good road games for this team to have. They are both losing a lot of talent and have big adjustments to make, but still have some decent talent. OSU on paper may be about equal or I believe probably slightly better than those teams.

Anyone who thought we'd see significantly tougher OOC scheduling under Holtmann was deluding themselves--especially now that we're going to 20 B1G games. EVERY high major schedules some cupcakes, that's how this works. We actually have a pretty tough schedule this coming season, but unfortunately with very few of the premier games on our home court.

Ohio State men’s basketball | Chris Holtmann talks LeBron James, ACC game on local radio

In a wide-ranging interview today on FM-WXZX (105.7), Holtmann said the fact that Ohio State will travel to face Creighton in the Gavitt Tipoff Games likely means an ACC team will be coming to Value City Arena this season.

“I don’t know the ACC Challenge opponent, either,” Holtmann said. “I do think we’re home, because we try to balance it with the Gavitt Games. That’ll nice. We’ll have multiple quality non-conference home opponents including one from the ACC, and it sounds like every indication I’ve gotten is that’s going to be another tournament team and challenging opponent.”

continued...
acc 2018 tournament teams:

duke
unc
clemson
fsu
uva
louisville
syracuse
miami
ncsu
virginia tech

acc teams osu has played two or three times in challenge:

duke
unc
fsu
uva
clemson

that leaves louisville, cuse, miami, ncsu, and vt. i'm throwing out vt because they're due a home game after 5 home games to 7 away games. though osu playing at home gives us a 2-game location advantage, i'm going to degrade miami's chances as our opponent since an away game for them gives them a 2-game location deficit. that leaves louisville, cuse, and ncsu. the challenge match-ups are usually determined by expected interest. any seems reasonable. dismissing that we're actually due an away game, cuse and ncsu are due away games. my money would be on one of those two. my hope is that it's cuse.

I have no idea why he thinks they will get a home game in the Challenge. They are due to play a road game, and also I remember Matta saying they have no control over that particular game. The Challenge schedulers don't always do the expected, but I see no reason to assume a home game.
