2018-2019 Ohio State Men's Basketball (Official Thread)

Holtmann's already started bringing Ledee in more for Kaleb, I don't know when else Ledee is supposed to come in, he'd definitely be worse than Andre or Young at the 4.

CJ has been soooo streaky but I don't really see a way around his minutes, and he is still giving us good flashes here and there. The season won't be salvaged without him playing a major role. Even if the season completely tanks I don't think we're gonna full-on bench a senior contributor to the program just so someone who is not going to play much PG for us next season can play some PG minutes. Maybe it would benefit DWash to get some of that but I don't know that we should play DWash much more than 25 mpg and I think those minutes should come from elsewhere...

Woods is the guy that I think Holtmann might need to take minutes from. He's playing almost 27 mpg right now, take at least 10 of those and give 5 to DWash and the rest to Ahrens and Jallow.

That's a little surprising given how poor his shooting was prior to the MD game. So I take it a couple ways: 1) Washington's defense must be better than it looks, and 2) man, our team is not very good!

Holtmann's already said that Washington's dealing with fatigue issues so I'm not sure you want him playing 30 mpg or whatever and getting real sloppy, losing confidence, etc... but I am definitely not opposed to him taking Woods' position as a starter and/or getting 5-10 more mpg.

I don't see more than 3 wins on that schedule. I could totally see this team bottoming out and not winning any of them.

They COULD win some, but it's going to be a struggle. And it's a combination of the B1G being really good this year and this team lacking depth and a go-to outside scoring threat.

Feel bad for Kyle, hope this doesn't prove a major setback for his development.

And I really hope this doesn't mean we're going to see 40 mpg of Andre. Give Ledee a chance. Play some Ahrens and Jallow in the frontcourt if you have to. Andre is not the kind of horse you want to ride all day.

What do we have to lose????

CJ

Duane

Luther

Ledee

Kaleb

Andre/Justin Ahrens/woods/jallow is your bench

Part of me says "Go small and start all our guards!" but for obvious reasons I don't think you can do that, nevermind that our guards haven't exactly been inspiring the past few games. I do think we are going to need to play more for transition and pace, though, if we want to create any sort of advantage. I think you're gonna have to sacrifice size and defense inside, accept that the rebounding will suffer, and try to get some flow and mojo back on offense. For that reason, I don't think starting Ledee and Kaleb together is a good idea.

Young was our sometimes starter at the 4 and main back-up at both the 4 and the 5, though, so this is going to dramatically affect the rotation. Unless Andre starts playing 40 mpg, it's not going to be as simple as just bringing in Ledee more now for Kaleb.

I do think Ledee is now first option to come in when Kaleb comes out. I can see Andre playing some at the 5, too, but Andre is already going to be playing a lot at the 3 and the 4, I am praying Holtmann doesn't just try to max out Andre's minutes.

I think when Andre comes out or slides to the 5, you will see some of Jallow or Ahrens at the 4. Jallow would give you a better rebounding and defensive option. Ahrens gives you a better corner 3 threat. Either option will be needed. As far as I know Ledee has been practicing and playing almost exclusively at the 5 and Holtmann barely trusts Ledee's movement on D as it is, so I simply can't see him getting much play anywhere other than the post. Maybe if Ledee could hit some outside shots but that's never really been his game and he has zero 3-pointers this season, so that about says it all.

Think Holt probably sticks with the same starters as last game, CJ, Luther, Woods, Wesson Bros. Secretly hoping Duane replaces Woods but not holding my breath, at the very least hoping that Duane plays more now, but that still probably comes at expense of Woods minutes (which needs to happen if Woods continues his current play). The biggest change will be Ledee likely playing more and probably Jallow and Ahrens coming in for Andre, when you only have 4 scholarship guards you can't really play all of them together that much. Jallow and Ahrens are both 6'5 so we will be undersized but we already were undersized, at least we wouldn't be playing only one player over 6'3.

Who knows, maybe Jallow can find himself out there again by just using his athleticism and length and being aggressive around the rim.
