2018-2019 Ohio State Men's Basketball (Official Thread)

The Buckeyes (8-12 in the Big Ten) and Sooners (7-11 in the Big 12) became the third and fourth teams ever to earn an at-large bid despite being four games under .500 in conference play. The previous two teams to do it both won their first-round game before bowing out in the second round.

From 1985 to 2009, No. 6 seeds won 69 percent of the meetings, but in the past nine years, they have won just 44 percent. It has been decidedly worse for 6-seeds in the past three years, as they have lost eight of the 12 matchups.

I guess theres always a chance Iowa State blew their wad in the Big 12 tourney and runs out of gas......tough draw though against a team that should have all the momentum in the world.

It's been a challenging season, which most of us expected, but I have to say I'm thrilled we just made the Dance with this roster (thanks, Ultra Weak Bubble!). I expect little at this point (though I don't hate the Iowa State match-up, I was dreading more someone like Auburn) and I'm just grateful.

Where are they now? OSU's coulda-woulda-shoulda-been 2019 graduating class, on the eve of what could have been their Senior year NCAA tournament bid:

Daniel Giddens - sitting home eating cheeseburgers as the Tide lost to Norfolk St in the NIT yesterday. Played very sparingly and scored a total of 27 points all season.

Mickey Mitchell - apparent bench fixture for #11 seed Arizona State, who faces Buffalo Friday. Has not played at all in over 3 months and has scored a total of 12 points this season.

AJ Harris - starting PG and leader for #12 seed New Mexico St, who faces Auburn today. Has scored 309 points this season thus far.

JaQuan Lyle - sitting out the year due to an Achilles injury at New Mexico.

Austin Grandstaff - transferred from Oklahoma to DePaul, played very little in 2018 and left the team to pursue a hip-hop/rap career. DNP-PD.

Has there ever been a class rated this high that got such bad results? What an awful class.

Giddens and Harris surprise me the most. Gidddens because he looked like he'd be a star with some more experience. Harris because I thought his size would limit him although he showed flashes at OSU.
