Annual BP bracket contest

I had a UNLV feeling about Arizona...you know, they win games in the tournament and then everything is taken away because we find out their team had a higher payroll than the Cavs.

Anyway - my bracket is nuclear waste now....

I blindly picked the higher seed in every game through the whole thing* to see how it would go.

23/32 in the first round games

*Starting in the Sweet 16 I picked scUM to go all the way and win the NC in order to properly jinx them and ensure it won't happen

I have been doing brackets for decades, whether it were in bigger pools or just - as this year - in a 4 person pool with some of my friends to see who gets to determine our lunch location for the next several months... Anyway, I have never put much thought into brackets. I don't watch talking head shows. I don't do ken pom research, I don't compare rosters or stats... Hell, I hardly even watch any games, and if I do, that game involves the Buckeyes.... I just pick the team that I think is going to win, and that team is usually the favorite (I will tend to give the Buckeyes more chance than a betting man should really afford them, for example). I might occasionally pick an upset... like this year, I took Loyola Chi over Miami... No real reason, just sorta felt right... Actually, I hate my bracket this year, as I ended up with Duke winning the motherfucker, and there's no way in hell I'm gonna "root" for it... But.. the point I started this post to make... despite not trying to prove myself as the smartest guy in the pool, wasting my time with a bunch of #hottake upset picks, I usually finish at/near the top... not saying I win all the time. I don't. But, I'm usually always within striking distance is my point. I haven't kept count, but in 20 years, I've probably won 5 pools and finished in the top 3 another 7 or 8 times and I can't think of a time I've been outside the top 10 (assuming a large enough pool, of course)

I'd also point out, I don't have 4 favorite teams and I don't go by the name "Henry"

The other thing that amuses me is how people tend to look only at their own bracket. One of the benefits of running a pool is you get a sense for everyone's picks. So, when UVA lost to UBMNADKHEQKAGS last night, a whole bunch of folks said "Well, fuck.. I'm screwed" Not really. Pretty much everyone had UVA in last night's game, and many people had UVA going much further... just like you.... so... it's a net loss of zero, pound for pound.
