2018 Week 14 CFB Open Thread

I agree with that statement - that's why I personally agreed with the committee's decision to select Alabama last year (and they promptly waxed Clemson by 3 TDs)

To the second question - who knows? There's an extreme scenario of a 10-2 Bama vying for selection with 4 12-0/11-1 teams, but let's cross that bridge if it ever arises.

I completely agree that a claim could be made for a 10-2/11-2 Alabama team getting in over someone with a shit resume. The same can’t be said for Georgia this season. Which is why I think ESPN’s campaign is hilarious.

JFC, Pitt had 8 yards passing on 4-16 despite only being sacked twice. How the FUCK does that happen?

My opinion on the playoff deal, not that anyone cares? If you're gonna do it right, you gotta make it an 8 team field. Any given year, there isn't all that much difference between teams 4-8, and there's too much subjectivity to pick a fourth and leave 4 others out.

Here’s my top 8:

1 Alabama - 8 UCF
2 Clemson - 7 Michigan
3 Oklahoma - 6 Georgia
4 Notre Dame - 5 Ohio State

I would thoroughly enjoy watching 3 of those 4 games.

ESPN justifying Georgia as a top 4 team in the country and that they should be in the playoff despite a 20 point loss to LSU...Oklahoma has a better loss of 3 points to a top 20 team...and 1 loss not 2. Guess that’s the whole SEC losses don’t matter effect.

sound was off, but was i seeing correctly that freaking Herbie still has Georgia as his #3?
why even play the fucking games if they don't matter?

Seriously. It reeks of the bullshit in 2011 where Alabama's best argument for the rematch was a close loss to LSU. Actually this is way worse because at least 2011 Alabama dominated every opponent they played except for LSU. Georgia got fucking hammered by a 3-loss LSU team.

The frustration lies in the non-biased data which puts OSU into the ESPN Invitational.

Since humans make up the committee, and those humans have biases and ESPN owns the Invitational, OSU will not be in bc of financial purposes.

It’s never a good thing at a major corporation when your biggest competitor, is eating into your market share. Like most things in life, follow the money. Big 10 gets hosed.......again.

And I’ve been hammering this for over a year. If you want evidence look at how they propped up Texas last week (after winning by 7 against a 3-9 Kansas team) while hammering Northwestern for winning by 7, in a rivalry game, against Illinois. Northwestern actually slid from #19 to #21. The ending to the story has been written for some time. If it wasn’t OU keeping us out, there’d be a backdoor way to get UGA in. This is business, not fairness.

This.

The underlying issue is the way teams are selected, not the size of the field.

Expanding to 8, 10, 12 16 64, or whatever number you want the wheel to land on, isn't going to fix a flawed selection process.

The B1G needs to protect itself and redefine the nature of the engagement. Currently they are (corporately speaking) fighting on ABC/ESPN's ground. You never let the enemy dictate the battle ground.

Make your own alliance, shift the battle to your ground. Shape your enemy.

I'd take Fox for TV partner and get the PAC12, B12 and B1G together to threaten, with every intent of going through with it, a split off.

Goal being to ensure an equitable distribution of the revenue. As @billmac91 noted, there is no such thing as "fair". That is a concept young children whine about.

Two seasons ago the Buckeyes last two games were a 1 point squeaker over Sparty and an OT win over scUM, didn't even reach the B1G title game, yet got in the CFP.

Did this bias just start? Where was it then?

We were given the benefit of the doubt two years ago and shit the bed by 31 points against Clemson. It's now 3 years in a row where the Bucks have gotten destroyed in a game, the last 2 by teams far worse than Clemson. To think that doesn't influence people who aren't members of this forum is to be in denial.

Sparty getting crushed in the playoff didn't help either.
