2018 Week 7 CFB Open Thread

Yeah, I know. The running game has been a disappointment and the defense gives up way too many big plays. But I can recall many years where I would've killed to be 7-0, yet now we're bitching about not looking "good enough" while doing it.

It shows we've grown as a program, and have become spoiled as a fan base. Bring on the Boilers.
But we were so dominant every single week in 2002. That’s the standard.

Yeah... Everybody has a bad game at least once a year

This was the week it happened to a lot of teams

That wasn't just a garden-variety under-performance by the Buckeyes today, because that wasn't just a bad football team they played. Minnesota is a cluster-fucked train wreck of dumpster fires and the Buckeyes were dominated by them on both lines of scrimmage.

Yeah... Everybody has a bad game

But this is a team that had serious issues to fix coming into today and they took a big step backwards

It has now reached the point where expecting things to be corrected in time to be competitive in the playoff is whistling past the graveyard.

Can it happen?

sure

But until I see some progress, I won't expect it.

Does all of this mean that I didn't enjoy the win today?

Of course not.

I'm enjoying today for everything it's worth, including the fact that all of Ohio State's goals for the season are still possible (theoretically).

But to me it is simply a fact that today was one of the worst under-performances I've ever seen by any team in scarlet and gray.

I remember being on another board and guys were hoping we wouldn't get in the BCS after the 10-6 Purdue win, because we'd get "exposed" by Miami.

I wonder what became of those wusses?

Pitt is always the rustiest knife in the block, yet they get someone annually.

I'd hate to see what taking wins for granted and reveling in the negative would look like if this is enjoyment.

Sorry, couldn’t resist. Carry on.

There are lot of mad-online folks using Tressel to badmouth Urban when it comes to lackluster outings like this. It's fairly hilarious, particularly given who benefited from the most uninspiring outing in Tressel history.

I don’t think anyone disagrees that there’s work that the coaches and players have to do. Good news, they are sleeping in their own beds tonight. They will be at the WHAC early to get at it.

They know what needs to be done better than any of us here.

And again, to reiterate, if Ohio State plays badly they will get beat by a good team. But if they play well, they can win every game.

I don’t get the point of being so fucking pessismistic about it.

It’s especially annoying because if Ohio State does drop a game we’ll no doubt have plenty saying “I told you so.”

Well, no fucking shit, bad stuff happens in most years, thus Ohio State not winning a national championship every single season.

Being negative is the easy way out, because you’re almost always right... but it still gets to be too much on a consistent basis.
