Carl Pelini promoted to head coach at Bowling Green

Bowling Green fired coach Mike Jinks midway through his third season, with the Falcons winless against FBS competition.

Athletic director Bob Moosbrugger announced the move Sunday. Defensive coordinator Carl Pelini, the former head coach at Florida Atlantic and Nebraska assistant, was named interim coach.

"I want to thank Coach Jinks for all of his efforts with our football program and in the BG community. However, we felt it was time to make a change in leadership," Moosbrugger said. "These are not easy decisions and we do not take this lightly. This affects 11 coaching families, 112 student-athletes and numerous support staff."

Jinks was 7-24 with Bowling Green and the team seemed to be sliding backward. The Falcons won four games in 2016, two last season and are 1-6 after falling 42-35 at home to Mid-American Conference rival Western Michigan on Saturday.

Bowling Green's only victory this season was against FCS-level Eastern Kentucky. The Falcons are second-to-last among 130 FBS teams in points allowed, averaging 47.6 per game.

Jink, 46, was a successful high school coach in Texas before spending three seasons as an assistant at Texas Tech. He was hired by Bowling Green after the 2015 season. He was in the third season of a five-year contract and will be owed about $950,000 by the school.

Bowling Green plays at Ohio, coached by Frank Solich, next Saturday.

LSU gets Georgia & Florida.
Alabama gets Missouri & Tennessee.

In what universe is SEC scheduling fair? Alabama getting Tennessee as a guaranteed cross-division opponent every season because of their rivalry is fucking garbage.

Florida is their permanent Cross Division Rival. UT is Alabama's.
Some years it is more daunting than others.

on scUM vs Sparty

Sparty is #1 in run defense. That could pose problem's for scUM, who has still not proven they can be relied upon to win throwing the ball. Problem is Sparty's offense has been general crap. This has the making of an ugly slop fest
