2019-2020 B1G Men's Basketball (Official Thread)

Cam Mack commits to the Huskers. Explosive 6'4-6'5 lead guard. #2 JUCO recruit in the country (Huskers also getting Jervay Green who is a great shooter and #3 JUCO).

Mack is one of those rare JUCO recruits that you can probably classify as an instant impact player. He has the physical tools to really make a splash right off the bat, and Hoiberg's time with Monte Morris is a good prep sample of how well he might utilize Mack offensively.

To be frank, I actually love Nebraska's rotation at guard. Mack, Green, Dachon Burke, Amir Harris, Haanif Cheatham, Matej Kavas.... that's a very nice mix of length, athleticism, experience, scoring. Would not in fact be surprised to see them start 4 guards (with Cheatham or Kavas functioning as the 4) given that's the apparent strength on the roster unless they land a couple major pick ups in the frontcourt. If Hoiberg can figure out a way to get decent rebounding and post play, then they're skipping the rebuild year and headed for a finish in the top half of the conference, I think.

Nebraska fans are giddy right now.

And they are gonna need to keep adding, because it sounds like Amir Harris, Thor Thor, and Brady Heiman will all be transferring.

Basically leaving RS frosh Karrington Davis as the only returning guy, unless Roby comes back.

Yeah, Nebraska is as close as it gets to a complete roster rebuild this offseason. Other than Roby, the other guys leaving makes little difference as they were all scrubs more or less. Hoiberg is the perfect guy to come in at the situation Nebraska is at, because adding a lot of transfers is the only way for them to rebuild quickly.

If Roby's gone then Nebraska won't return a single player that played last season. Karrington Davis was a frosh injury RS and and Dachon Burke sat-out from transfer--that's it, that's the only two guys who were with the team last season. It's going to be a new team, basically.

I am utterly fascinated to see what Hoiberg does in year one. I really like the guards he is bringing in with Mack and Green, I think Cheatham will do well, Kavas is intriguing as an experienced 6'8 guy who can really shoot, Burke is a quality transfer and will fit well with what Hoiberg wants to do, and I'm sure Hoiberg's not done yet adding guys.

This is Hoiberg's specialty, throwing a bunch of ingredients together and making prime jello salad, but I do really wonder what it's going to be like where you have basically a whole team of guys who have never played with each other or in the B1G (if Roby leaves) before. It's going to be really interesting to follow.

Nebraska might be the most intriguing team in the B1G in terms of the possible variance between being bad and good is as extreme and unpredictable as any team.

I think Purdue is going to be underestimated by a lot of people. Yes, obviously losing Edwards is a big hit, as big as any in college basketball, but at the same time at the end of the year they were legitimately among the top five or six teams, which means they can take a step back or two and still be a top-25 team. There are a lot of talented players there that are coming back and could see a bigger role. They lost a lot of shooting, but Painter always seems to have shooters.

I agree. Williams, Eastern, Wheeler, Haarms... all these guys looked like they are set to be major contributors. Then you've got Brandon Newman and Mason Gillis coming in, the grad transfer Proctor, development for guys like Hunter and Dowuona. Stefanovic might be ready to set up into a shooter role (41% from 3 last season, his first). I dunno, just after last season where they lost four starters to graduation and still won a very tough B1G, I'm done doubting Painter too much.
