2019-2020 College Basketball Discussion (Official Thread)

Will be interesting to see how successful she is at recruiting.

Ok I had assumed that she was a women's basketball player at some point. She wasn't. She was a women's college soccer player.

I get that there are successful coaches in college basketball and football who didn't play the sport but this is a big yikes from me. Who knows, maybe she is really a great coach. But it would be tough to sell to me as a recruit.

Bringing up the Jerry Stackhouse hire by Vandy brings me to another topic. There are three guys that have been brought in to the SEC this offseason that I have to say seem questionable hires, Stackhouse, Musselman and Oats. Obviously Buzz is a home run, but none of the other three have really proven they can actually coach. Stack has been an AAU coach for 3 years, and an NBA assistant for 2. Musselman is a roll the ball out and play coach. Oats's last Buffalo team was good, but I think he let his guards have way too much leeway to the point that they were reckless with the ball & his style isn't going to work when you're not the big fish in a small pond anymore.

wonder what Francis is thinking about his commitment to UNC now that Anthony is there for one year
can't imagine he's too surprised or discouraged. with coby white departing, i doubt francis was expecting that roy would stay pat with a point guard whose injuries may result in few meaningful college minutes. i don't know how his rehab has been going, but i'd be surprised if he's on track to be full-go by the start of the season. heck, he may never become full-go.

Well he is most likely the backup PG, and could become the starter eventually in future years. I don't think that UNC has much in the way of other ball handlers aside from Cole. UNC is a hard program to get a starting role as a freshman anyway, so as long as he is playing the regular backup role, he will be about where he should be.

I doubt if Roy sits on his hands when he knows that Cole is probably leaving after next season. You really think that he is not going to go after one of the highest rated PG's coming out of high school next year. At least Francis can enjoy the wedding pictures in Chapel Hill.

obviously no 2020-21 season thread yet, but there's no better thread for this.

a few noteworthy 2020 early-season tournaments announced today. no tournament including osu, but we should get one announced sometime soon. coach has stated that the program would be seeking one out. given what should be a good 2020 team, it would certainly be a mistake not to play in one.

empire - ttun, nova, baylor, nc state
emerald - illinois, uf, oregon, isu
charleston - psu, tenn, houston, fsu, seton hall, vcu, oksu, charleston
jamaican - lsu, rhode island, usu, north texas

plenty of tournaments remaining that tend to include at least one program somewhat comparable to osu: nit, battle 4 atlantis, maui jim, hall of fame, orlando, wooden, air force, continental tire, mgm, legends, myrtle beach, virgin islands, and cayman islands.
