2019 NCAA Baseball Tourney (Official Thread)

Juggalos make the tournament for the first time in 45 years. They play defending champs Oregon State, and TTUN is in their region.

Florida got in and will play Dallas Baptist.

SO YOU'RE SAYING THERE'S A CHANCE? The BaseBucks drew No. 2 overall seed Vanderbilt for their NCAA Tournament regional, which seemed like just a poor stroke of luck. But what if it's the Commodores who got the bad draw with Ohio State?

The Buckeyes are one of Baseball America's two most-dangerous No. 4 seeds in the entire NCAA Tournament.

Ohio State — The Buckeyes will head to Nashville as one of the most battled-tested and hottest No. 4 seeds in the field. OSU had to sweep a series at Purdue on the last weekend of the regular season just to get into the Big Ten Tournament, and once in Omaha, it had to play five games, including two on Sunday, to clinch the automatic bid. Outfielder Dominic Canzone (.351/.448/.628) had a real claim to the Big Ten player of the year award, and workhorse lefty reliever Andrew Magno (2.33, 13 SV) was named Big Ten Tournament MVP after throwing 9.2 scoreless innings across four appearances last week.

I know Ohio State hasn't looked anything close to an NCAA Tournament team for most of the regular season, but I also know The Bucks Are Hot, and I'd want absolutely no part of them to open my NCAA Tournament if I were Vanderbilt.

I'm not going to guarantee a win or anything, but I can tell you I'll be tuned the hell in on Friday evening.

Ohio State baseball to play Vanderbilt in NCAA Regionals
After winning the Big Ten Tournament over the weekend, the Buckeyes are moving on to play more postseason baseball.

By Geoff Hammersley@GeoffHammersley May 27, 2019, 12:43pm EDTSHARE

After defeating Nebraska to win the Big Ten Tournament as the No. 7 seed, the Ohio State Buckeyes knew that they already punched their ticket to the NCAA Regionals. On Monday, they found out who they’d have to play — and travel to.

The Scarlet and Gray, who enter this leg of the postseason at 35-25, will face the No. 2 overall seed Vanderbilt. The Commodores lead all teams in college baseball with 49 wins, and have only lost 10 games all season. At home, the reigning SEC regular season and tournament champions are a staggering 31-5.

Ohio State has momentum, though, as they’ve won eight of their last nine games en route to their 10th Big Ten Tournament title. Six Buckeyes (Andrew Magno, Seth Lonsway, Griffan Smith, Dillon Dingler, Brady Cherry and Dominic Canzone) were named to the conference all-tournament squad, with Magno being named most outstanding player.

Because the Commodores are the top team within the quad, they’ll be hosting the regional series between Vanderbilt-Ohio State and Indiana State-McNeese, with the winner advancing to face the winner from the Morgantown Region.

Regional rules will operate under a double-elimination format, with the Super Regionals operating under a best-of-3 format.

The Big Ten got five teams in the field of 64, with Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, and Nebraska joining OSU. However, none of the B1G schools are a host venue for the regionals.

Ohio State-Vanderbilt is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET Friday, with the game to be broadcast on ESPN2.

BUCKEYES HEADED TO NASHVILLE REGIONAL
SHARE

“We’re going to go to Vanderbilt and be ready to play,” head coach Greg Beals said. “Our guys have faced some really good pitching over the past few weeks and are battle-tested. We’ve won a championship in front of more than 17,000 fans. My biggest thing right now is that we have a good week of training so that we are able to physically recover and prepare for a national tournament. What’s happened in the last few weeks has created some believing. That’s ultimate for anybody in competition. My message to the guys today was the same message I told back on the very first day. Let’s play in a Super Regional to see who goes to Omaha. We have to win a four-team tournament first but we are now in a position to do that. We’ve been in the national tournament several years now. The next evolution is to get to a three-game series and I hope we are going to make a push at that this year.”

Ohio State opens regional play against Vanderbilt at 7 p.m. ET Friday. The contest between the Buckeyes and Commodores will be televised on ESPN2. Vanderbilt is hosting a regional for the seventh time in program history as the No. 2 overall seed in the field. Vanderbilt led the nation with 49 victories and captured the SEC championship and SEC Tournament title. The Buckeyes are 4-0 all-time vs. Vanderbilt. This will be first meeting between the two schools since 1975.
The Buckeyes and Commodores are joined by No. 2 seed Indiana State (41-16) and No. 3 seed McNeese (35-24), who will meet in the regional opener at 1 p.m. ET Friday. Ohio State is 0-2 all-time vs. Indiana State and 2-3 vs. McNeese.

The winner of the Nashville Regional will move on to a Super Regional next weekend against the winner of the Morgantown Regional, which consists of West Virginia, Texas A&M, Duke and Fordham. The Super Regional is a best two-of-three format with the winner advancing to the eight-team College World Series, scheduled for June 15-June 26 at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Neb.
